Lastly, thanks to all those who have spoken to me

I was recently elected to the Bishops Council of
Priests, the result of which will be the need to aend
another meeng each month in Newcastle. This will
alsomeanthatonthat day,whichisasyetunknown,
MasswillnotbeavailableintheParish.

While this is not idealand if it was physically

possible for me it would be otherwiseI have been
reecng since I learnt of my elecon about how we
can address this as a community of faith. Part of the
answerisprovidedbyourYear of Graceduringwhich
wehavebeenencouragedtobemoreaenvetothe
Word of God, reecng on what we hear in the
Scriptures and allowing this to deepen our
relaonshipwithJesus.

To that end, on those occasions when Mass is unable

to be celebrated in the Parish, Id like to suggest that
the community connue to gather to listen to the
Word of God being proclaimed, to reect on what is
heard, and to be nourished by Gods Word. These
Liturgies of the Word would consist of a mix of
proclamaon, silence, reecon and prayer,
essenallythersthalfofthecelebraonofMass.

Such celebraons would, by denion, be presided

over by lay members of the community, and before
they were to begin some formaon and preparaon
wouldberequired.

Before implemenng such a change in the life of the

Parish, I would welcome your input and reecon
before I discuss the maer with the Parish Pastoral
Council. If you would like to contribute to the
conversaon, please feel free to drop me a note or
email.
