Adams County Library System Launches New Web Site!

The Library System has a new website. It has been more than a year in development, but the new website went into operation on Monday, March 19th. The site was designed to be a cleaner look and to make navigating the offerings of the Library System a little more obvious. I would like to give you a little tour of the site so that you know what is there. When you enter the homepage you will find current news stories about the Library System. Every day or so a new event will be highlighted in the text and we can keep you up-to-date with any changes in the system.

Across the menu on the top, are a number of drop down menus. The most important for the library user will probably be the E-Library menu. Here you can access all of the electronic information which the library has available such as downloadable audio books and online databases which can answer your questions. Specific services are highlighted under the Childrens, Teens and Adult services menus. Under the About menu, you will find information about the Library System such as Board Members and Policies. Along the left hand column of the webpage are some menus with links to specific services and other community partners in the county. The first menu is search our catalog. This has all the links you will need to navigate your Adams County Library System search for materials. The second menu is library services. This includes a link to the libraries calendar of events which lists all the activities at all the libraries in the county. The third is library information which includes links to library news and to our community partners. The page also allows you make donations to the Adams County Library System using a credit card. You can find that under the donate menu on the page. You do have to have a Google Account to do this, but it is easy to register. Check out the new library webpage. You can also follow the library on Facebook, Twitter or Google+. Let us know what you think!

Like many mothers, Marcy approaches the coming summer vacation months with a mix of pleasure and dread. She looks forward to some fun kick-back time with her 7 year old twins, but worries they will forget everything they learned all year in school. Summer vacation is so long, she laments. I dont know how to maintain their reading levels through the summer. They just seem to backslide more and more each year. Thanks to the summer reading program at the Adams County Library, Marcy has one less thing to worry about. Aimed at all kidsfrom Pre-K to High Schoolthis program challenges children to read all summer and keep their brains engaged. Your membership contribution to Friends helps fund this essential summer activity for so many Adams County children. Kelly has been looking for work since she was laid off last year. Money is tight. Shes done everything she can think of to cut expenses, including cancelling her internet service and cable TV. Thanks to the librarywell furnished with computers-- Kelly has a place to search the internet, work on her resume and continue her job search. And as an added bonus, the library has free books and free DVDs that Kelly can check out whenever she wants. Your membership contribution to Friends helps fund the librarys computers and makes possible a marvelous collection of current books and DVDs for so many Adams County citizens. What do Legos and robots have in common? EVERYTHING--at the public library! Kyle and his Middle School buddies gather at the library for a four week course, where they learn how to build a robot using Legos. But these arent ordinary plastic rectangles and squares. These Legos have mechanical pieces. The young engineers start with a design and then use a special computer program to make their androids come alive. Your membership contribution to Friends helps fund fun activities like this that challenge the imaginations of Adams County preteens. Friends of the Library invite all citizens of Adams County to join today by filling out the recently mailed dues notice and returning your contribution in the prepaid envelope. Your gift to the Friends helps support an amazing array of programs and allows the library to purchase additional collections that promote lifelong learning and inspire minds of all ages.
