Before sailing for Hong Kong, he notified Del Pilar that he was retiring from political arena in Spain to preserve unity among compatriots and that despite their parting of ways, he had highest regards for him.

Unexpected Arrival
Francisco Mercado, Paciano and Silvestre Ubaldo (his brother-in-law) arrived in Hong Kong. The deportees were to be removed to Sulu. All the deportees escaped through a well-organized plan. Paciano and Silvestre with the aim of secretly getting Rizals parents to Hong Kong, contacted home and discovered that Teodora Alonso had been arrested.
