    Green Cities, Growing Cities, Just Cities?

    Urban Planning and the Contradictions of Sustainable Development

    Through years, planners are involves in making difficult decisions to clarify and putting their judgments and priorities between the protection of environment, the economic growth, and social justice. The differences among these three priorities have made planners in barely dilemma about to sustain the development of urban and rural areas. Even though, planners are being told to preserve the environment as top priorities, and environmental planner assumes the urban as the resources user and a producer of wastes. But based on the human history, the physical development frequently made the natural to pay the consequences for the exploration of jungle for new urban areas, polluted of water body and air, and also cut and leveling through the hills and mountains. Since the social planners roles to serve public interest by providing the facilities, infrastructure, and socio-economic for peoples, therefore the distribution of resources and services can be provided. As for the economic, planners are to provides and optimizes the property, and cash in flow for the investment as well as urban as a location of production, consumption and distribution of material from natural resources. But since the overlapping and contradiction of economic-ecological-society has resulting in needs for integrates these three triangles. Through integration, these three majors could be sustain and equilibrium in making green cities, growth cities and just cities for urban areas.
