Cefuroxime
Classification
>Anti infectives antibiotic; secondgeneration cephalosporin
Dose
Mechanism of action
>Second generation cephalosporin that inhibits cell wall synthesis, promoting osmotic instability ;usually bactericidal.
Side effects
>Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach pain may occur. Dizziness and drowsiness may occur less frequently, especially with higher doses. >Nausea, headache, anorexia asthenia, dizziness, fatigue, malaise, stomach discomfort
Adverse effects
> Phlebitis, thrombophlebitis, pseudomembranous colitis, hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, transient neutropenia, macula popular and erythematous rashes and urticaria
Nursing consideration
>Before giving dug. ask patient if she is allegic to penicillin or cephalosporin. >Obtain specimen for culture and sensitivity tests before giving first dose. absorption of oral drug is induced. >Administer with food or milk to minimize GI irritation. Tablets may be crushed for patients with difficulty swallowing. >Instruct patient to take medication exactly as directed evenly spaced times between dose, even if feeling better. Do not skip doses or double up on missed doses. If a dose is missed, take as soon as remembered if not almost time for next dose. >May cause dizziness or lightheadedness. Caution patient or other activities requiring alertness until response to medication is known.
Metronidazole
>Direct actingacting trichomonocide and amebicide that works inside and outsides the intestines. It thought to enter the cells of microorganisms that contain nitroreductase, forming unstable compounds that bind to DNA and inhibit synthesis, causing cell death.
>peripheral neuropathy, neuropathy, neutropenia, convulsions, ataxia, skin problems (skin rashes, urticaria), and vaginal candidiasis, pancreatitis, cystitis, mucous colitis and hemolysis.
