The Principal & The honourable board members during the inauguration of the D-block

D-block ready for action

It was the auspicious day of Rakhi, and the students found themselves pleasantly surprised to find out that the D-block was being inaugurated that day. Our Special Correspondent rushed to the scene with his trusted digicam in hand. Meanwhile quite a few students were out of their classes & most of the faculty was present there. After the ceremonial ribbon cutting & a small pooja the block was declared open. Then chocolates were distributed & the team ran up the stairs to take pictures of the still uninhabited classrooms. They had a neat look to them. Meanwhile someone actually witnessed two guys even inaugurating the toilets. Then all the students were summoned & the board members took their turns in giving small speeches. But what stood out to me was the fact that how these gentlemen took pride in the fact that MGIT had grown so much in the last 8 years. They were sure if we kept going at this rate we would overtake our illustrious neighbours in no time. Honestly speaking the students should be pleased with the support & faith the board members have had in them & should do their best to make take MGIT it dizzying heights. Also word has it that the D-block would be occupied by the CSE & EEE departments. Lucky guys you might lament, but just think about those who would have to climb 5 floors. Phew !!! Atleast they will lose all that fat developed by eating the canteen food. The benches are being transported to the d-block but when they will be ready for occupation is a question we dont have the answer to. So to all CSE & EEE junta ,Goodluck on behalf of the Retreat team !!!

EAT YOUR DESSERT FIRST

So life's short. Yeah I guess we tend to realize that nowadays! For generations people have continually attempted the simple life - eat, sleep, and any time you have left, have a damn good time! It isn't surprising that college life is often interpreted as a time to become more independent and free from rules. For all of us this college life is our piece of cake, the cream of our lives. We fight, we fall, we freak, we have funwe live it. Amidst all this we also realize a lot of things; we learn a lot of lessons and finally walk away far that we can't jus think of getting back these days again. Yup it's true these days are not going to come back, I can say never. So here we are eating our dessert first, so enjoy it, taste it but DON'T FORGET TO EAT YOUR MEAL.

Mangal,mangal...its mutiny time

Mangal Pandey The Rising is not so much a delineation of the life sketch of the revolutionary martyr Mangal Pandey as it is about the rise of individual and collective consciousness in Indians to wrest back their lost freedom from the colonial British. When Indias most expensive film, starring a talented, dependable actor and directed by a master craftsman, hits the big screen, the expectations are obviously sky high. This movie starring Aamir Khan , Toby Stephens , Rani Mukh erjee, Amisha Patel and Coral Beed, tells the story of sepoy Mangal Pandeys rebellion against the British. The movie begins with a shackled and bruised Mangal Pandey (Aamir Khan) being led to the gallows. The hanging, however, doesnt take place and the story goes back into flashback as a British officer reminisces his memories of Mangal and all that he stands for. The officer is William Gordon (Toby Stephens), a low-ranking officer whose life Mangal Pandey saved during the Afghan battle. The two have been friends since then sharing friendly fights in akhada, going tipsy on Bhang, singing songs and playing pranks on another cocky British officer. Small incidents that mark the rise of the revolutionary in Mangal Pandey dot the story. For instance, the beating of an Indian servant by a British officer and Mangals coming to his rescue. And later, Mangal rescuing a prostitute (Rani Mukherjee) from the same officer. Only this time, Mangal gives the officer a sound beating. Excellent performances by Aamir and Toby Stephens are the strong points of the movie. Aamir, in particular, brings out a brilliant portrayal of Mangal Pandey not just by his longhaired and mustachioed looks but also by reflecting the simmering intensity of the character. Rani Mukherjee and Amisha Patel have marginal roles. Yet the two ladies deliver strong performances.

Considering the high expectations that are being attached to the film, The Rising turns out to be a finely made movie, but not an exceptional one. Director Ketan Mehta must be complimented for credibly recreating history and showing first sparks of the revolution that culminated into Indian freedom almost 90 years later.

IEEE is calling out !!

The IEEE has started giving out membership applications. There was a seminar organized on Monday morning in which Prof.Bhargava (H.O.D - EEE) spoke in length about the advantages of joining the society of which he had been a member of for the last 25 years. The executive student committee consists of Varun(CSIT 4/4), Sashidar (EEE 4/4) & Sashikanth(CSE 4/4). These gentlemen have big plans for our IEEE chapter, but the activities & the support that you ask for can be provided to you only if the memberships are plenty. It has also been decided that Surge will be an annual fare from now & will hopefully increase in quality & participation. The amount to enroll in this society on Rs.1250 & trust me guys its worth it. We get lots of privileges along with Spectrum, the worlds foremost technical magazine. So hope the IEEE will have a lot of participation & well slowly develop a tech -savvy society. For further details you can either contact the people above mentioned or log onto www.mgit.org/ieee

Dont hold too tight

Relationships of all kinds are like sand held in your hand. Held loosely with an open hand, the sand remains where it is. The minute you close your hand and squeeze tightly to hold on, the sand trickles through your fingers. You may hold onto some of it, but most will be spilled. A relationship is like that. Held loosely with respect and freedom for the other person, it is likely to remain intact. But held too tightly, too possessively and the relationship slips away and is lost. When an emotional injury takes place, the body begins a process as natural as the healing of a physical wound. Let the process happen. Trust that nature will do the healing. Know that the pain will pass, and when it does, you will feel stronger and more
