2008.
Appendix-II
Terms and Conditions
1. The last date for receiving the completed Admission Form at the GATE/JAM Office of IIT Kanpur
is May 14, 2008. Admission Forms received after this closing date shall be rejected summarily.
2. Admission Form either found incomplete in any respect or if not accompanied by a Demand Draft
of Rs. 300/- shall be rejected and the candidate shall not be considered for admission
irrespective of his/her eligibility for any programme(s) for which the Admission Form has been
submitted.
3. To take care of possible dropouts, the number of qualified candidates in each test paper is more
than the number of seats available in various academic programmes covered under the test
paper. The fact that a candidate is in the merit list of qualified candidates neither guarantees nor
provides any automatic entitlement for admission. Admissions shall be made in order of merit
and depending upon the number of seats available at the Admitting Institute(s).
4. Before applying for the admission, the candidate must ensure that he/she satisfies the Minimum
Educational Qualifications and the Eligibility Requirements for admission. Minimum Educational
Qualifications for admissions are outlined in Section 4 of the JAM-2008 Information Brochure
(also available at http://www.iitk.ac.in/jam/program.htm). Eligibility Requirements for
admission are as follows:
• General and OBC category candidates: At least 55% aggregate marks (taking into
account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined).
• SC/ST and PD category candidates: At least 50% aggregate marks (taking into account
all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined).
• For candidates with letter grades/ CGPA (instead of percentage of marks), the equivalence in
terms of percentage of marks will be decided by the Admitting Institute(s).
5. It will entirely be responsibility of the candidate to prove that he/she satisfies the Minimum
Educational Qualifications and Eligibility Requirements for admission to the programme for which
he/she is admitted and also in respects of entitlement for admission against reserved categories,
if claimed, to the satisfaction of the Admitting Institute(s).
6. The Admitting Institute has the right to cancel, at any stage, the admission of a candidate who is
found admitted to a programme to which he/she is not entitled, being unqualified or ineligible in
accordance with the rules and regulations in force.
7. If the information furnished by the candidate in the Admission Form or the supporting documents
are found to be incorrect at a later date, the candidate himself/herself will be solely responsible
and his/her admission is liable to be cancelled at any time during his/her academic programme in
the Admitting Institute.
