ALL ABOUT JAM
INTRODUCTION
Joint Admission Test for M.Sc programmes, also known as JAM is a computer based
entrance examination conducted once every year for admission in M.Sc, Integrated
Ph.D, M.Sc- Ph.D and Dual degree programmes offered by 20 IITs and IISc Bangalore.
In the year 2019, three more institutes, IIT BHU (Varanasi), IIT Bhilai and IIT Palakkad
have been added to the list of JAM participating institutes. As much as 2688 seats
are offered for the postgraduate programmes by all the participating institutes of
JAM. The application forms of JAM are generally released in the month of September.
Candidates willing to fill the application form need to fill and submit the form before
the last date of submission. The entrance examination is conducted in the month of
February every year by any of the one participating institute and the result is declared
in the month of March. JAM scores are also valid for admissions in 20 NIT’s, 2 CFTI’s
and 3 IISER through CCMN (Counselling body for admission into NIT’s and CFTI’s).
After the results are released qualified candidates have to submit the admission form
as part of the counselling process. Based on the preferences filled in the admission
form, candidates are alloted the colleges in the admission list. The organizing insti-
tute releases upto three admission list for filling the vacant seats in the participating
institutes. A final offer letter is sent to the candidates after the final admission list post
which the admission process is closed. All about JAM contains the detailed admission
procedure followed for JAM.
