JOB SAFETY ANALYSIS

The performance of each task must be completed so that no risk of injury /damage is
taken against any individual or item of equipment/building.

To achieve this result all key jobs are to be scrutinised and a detailed "Job Safety Analysis"
performed. Refer form OSH&R 016 (attached). Each and every step involved in the
performance of the job is recorded, the potential accident or hazard involved in the carrying
out of this step is then documented and finally the recommended way to carry out this step
to avoid the potential accident or hazard is also recorded.
CHECKLIST - For Identifying Hazards
• Can the employee be struck by or contacted by anything while doing this job step?
• Can he strike against or make injurious contact with anything?
• Can he be caught in, on, or between anything?
• Can the employee strain or over exert?
• Can the employee slip or trip on anything? Can he fall in any way?
• Can employees be exposed to any injurious condition such as gas, heat, fumes?
• Can the employee injure a fellow employee?
• Can damage to equipment occur?
• Can pollution of the environment occur?
STAGES OF A J.S.A.
1. Select job to be analysed
2. Break job down into BASIC steps
3. Identify the hazards or potential accidents in each step
4. Develop solutions for the potential hazards
5. Record the J.S.A.
6. Review and update J.S.A. at completion of job

The result of carrying out this "Job Safety Analysis" is:

Work Procedure)
c) Potential unsafe acts will be remedied.

*Once the Job Safety Analysis is finally reviewed and approved by the National
