The passage provides an introduction to Nicholas Angel and establishes that he is being transferred from his role as a top police officer in London to become a sergeant in a small village.

Nicholas Angel is currently London's top police officer. He is being transferred to become a sergeant in the small village of Sanford against his wishes as he is promoted.

Nicholas Angel objects to the transfer and demands to speak to higher-ranking officers. When he goes to see his colleagues, they have already made him goodbye banners, implying they want him to stay but will support him in his new role.

When the universal logo appears, a police whistle is being blown.

The police whistle is an old,

stereotypical object of what all policeman carry.

This is the opening scene. Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) is filmed from a distance, walking up the
corridor (towards the camera.)

There is then a close up of his ID card and his police emblem.

It then goes through a series of small clips (a montage) showing why he is the top police officer.
Nicholas then appears in front of the sergeant who states that he is being promoted to the rank of
sergeant in the village of Sanford.

Angel objects and demands that he speaks to the inspector. After he speaks to the inspector, he says
he wants to speak the chief inspector. They make a big deal out of the fact they have to get the chief
inspector to come all the way down here just to talk to him, when in fact; he is just the other side of
the office.
Angel then says he won’t leave because all his team wouldn’t want him to leave. But when he goes
to see the team, they have already made “Good luck Nicholas” banners.

The scenes then change and are linked with a camera flash. A camera flash from Nicholas’ leaving
party and his ex-wife CSI crime scene camera flash.

Nicholas is then standing outside the broken window of the crime scene and is on the phone to his
ex-wife. The broken window could symbolise the condition of his relationship with his ex-wife.

He then goes in and talks to his ex-wife. She mentions she is seeing someone else, and that Angel is
too addicted to his job and that he can’t “switch off”. This is followed with a comment by Angel
saying something about the crime scene, backing up what his ex-wife said.
Nicholas is then packing his bags for Sanford. There is a voice overlay – as if it was playing on his
answer phone - of the chief inspector at Sanford police station.

This time, there is a police car driving along to change the scene.

There is then another series of short clips (montage) of Nicholas’ trip from London to Sanford. The
scenes changed faster as they are in London, and gradually slow down as he approaches Sanford.
