Business Writing Course Redesign


Departments of English and Business, University of Wisconsin Colleges Online Fall 2015
Redesigned the curriculum for the sophomore, cross-listed Business Communication course offered
through multiple sections by the UW Colleges Online virtual campus. Working with a business faculty
member to rearticulate learning outcomes for the course and a sequence of assignments focused on
rhetorical and ethical awareness in professional contexts for launch in Spring 2016.
Writing Program Revision & UW Flexible Option Curriculum Development

Revised the first-year-writing sequence learning outcomes to meet discipline standards and developed
competency-based online curricula for first-year composition courses as part of the proposed University of
Wisconsin Colleges Flexible Option AAS Degree.
Writing Center Policy Development

Co-Authored UW Colleges Writing Center Policy Statement with Holly Hassel and Joanne Giordano, and
assisted in refining department guidelines for ENG 099: Composition Tutorial as the instructor piloting the
course at the Waukesha campus.
First-Year Writing Placement

Used multiple-measures placement methods to assess timed essays of incoming students and place them
accurately into the first-year composition sequence.
Writing in the Disciplines Assessment
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Purdue University 2006-2008
Rated timed essay exams distributed to sophomore and senior level students in the ECE department to
assess their proficiency with the English language and ability to communicate complex technical information
for an educated, non-expert reader.
First-Year Composition Curriculum Development
Accelerated Composition, Introductory Writing Committee, Purdue University 2006-2007
Collaborated with other instructors and assistant directors on a subcommittee focused on developing a
distinct curriculum policy for the Accelerated Composition course.

Worked with fellow instructors and an assistant director to develop proposals for new teacher preparation
methods beyond the first-year teaching practicum for grad students.
Resource Development for Teacher Preparation
Collaborative Online Instructors Network, Purdue University 2005-2008
Developed and administered Collaborative Online Instructors Network (COIN) along with Alexis Ramsey
as a pedagogical resource for graduate instructors within the Introductory Composition program, combining
online community forums for sharing advice and a digital library for distributing materials.

Project WINDEAU: Writing in the Disciplines at Eau Claire, UW-Eau Claire 2001-2002
Compiled data drawn from surveys and interviews conducted to assess campus-wide interest in, and need
for, a writing in the disciplines/writing across the curriculum program; contributed data displays and
document design for official university report.
