3g Drive Test
Dear Friends,
I am giving you simply way to Drive Test:
Here I am not giving you full theory of Drive Test but giving you only how to do Drive in 3G.
When you are new employee of any RF Company then you have to do work with a Team. All person have
his superior.
But For Drive Test Engineer two Main Superior for his work and who will help you in field as well as kit
related issues.
You Main Superior on your Project:
Project Manager
Team Leader
Optimizer
Co-ordinator
In field you are consulted with Your Co-ordinator & Optimizer.
Works of Co-ordinator:He will give you plan (Site Id,Cell id etc)
He will take status of your site
Any field related issues of Sites etc.
Works Of Optimizer:Optimizer have many roles in RF.But for field Engineer (DT),He will optimize you site (e.g-Final Tilt,Final
Orientation,Scrambling Code etc.)
Optimizer Maintain Kpi (Keep Performance Index) ,Cluster Optimization etc.
Now I have giving you some information that how do work in RF(Drive Test) or How to Start Work in Drive
Test.
Take all important kit with all related software from officeFor Drive Test we need tools:A)Drive test tools(Tems,Nemo,Probe etc)
B)Mobile (For TEMS 10 W995,For Probe 2.2,2.3 using U120e etc.)
C)Testing Sim
D)GPS-72 Or Mouse GPS
E)Dongle of related tool Kit
F)Compass
G)Measuring Tape
H)Hub
I)Inverter
For connecting of Mobile from Laptop we use Data Cable & For Connecting Hand GPS(e.g-GPS-72,70)
we use baffo cable
When u have to use Tems tool for Drive Test then first install the Tems software.
STEPS FOR INSTALLING TEMS 10.0.5 SOFTWARE
1-First install .Net fx 35& Win installer3.1 in your PC
Now your Tems is open after that from down side in Tems, you click any one (E.g-Map etc.)and cut all the
window which is showing here.
After cut all the window ,Go to the presentation------WCDMA serving /Active set+Negibour for MS1 (For
First Mobile) for seeing the values of RSCP,Ec/No etc.
Same process we will do for another Mobile but for the second mobile you have to change you properties
of this window(Right Click on window which is for 2nd mobile----propeties---Mobile-----MS2----ok
Now you arrange these window in one corner for RSCP and Ec/No.
Now again we have have to go presentation (for HSDPA)-------WCDMA----data services-----HSDPA
Analysis
Now again we have to go Presentation (For HSUPA)-----WCDMA----data services----HSUPA Analysis
Now again we have to go Presentation (For Map)-----Positioning------click on Map----then the Map
window will show
After this we put Vector (Roads, highway,Water etc) and MIPT through layer control.
After this arrange all this window in proper manner as shown in figure
After this arrangement go to the File----Save work space as-----name---Save it on Desktop.
Before going to site you Check Have you Updated Mipt or cell file or not?
Have you All the required kit for Drive test or not?
After Checking this we go to the Site with the help of Connecting TEMS kit or Help of Hand GPS.
When you reached at the site then first work I have to do------Physical Audit of the site:- In physical audit we have to do--a)Tower Ht.
b)GSM ht.
c)Obs. Orientation
d)Antenna port
e)Obs Tilt
After checking this call to our optimizer for Final Tilt and Final orientation,Optimizer will ask to you GSM
ht. ,Obs.Orientation & Obs. Tilt then tell him every thing. After that optimizer will give you Final Orientation
& Final Tilt.As said by optimizer you told to the Riggar to change this tilt & orientation if required.
After completed your physical optimization connect both mobile (MS1 & MS2),GPS,Dongle through
Laptop after that open your TEMS. Without Dongle you can not open TEMS.
If your mobile both mobile is charging ,it means your mobile is connected to the laptop,In the Tems
Window Check right (Down) Side corner,it will show in red colour (4 if u connected 2 mobile & 1 for
GPS).After that connect mobile & GPS though connecting button which is already showing on the upper
green coloue button.Connet all the devices. If your all devices connected then your down side all red
colour button becomes Green. 3.1
CONNECTION PROCEDURE:
In order to connect the Drive test equipment also called kit the following procedure should be followed.
Connect the USB cables to the TEMS test phones..
Connect the other end of the USB cables to USB ports on the laptop.
Connect the GPS to the laptop, either via USB or via serial port.
Insert the Dongle into a USB port.
Note*: If the laptop does not have a sufficient number of USB cables then a 1x4 USB multiplexer may be
used.
Switch on the laptop and open Investigation 10.0.5
The tab named Control & Configuration contains a window called Port Identification
Click on Identify equipment, a list of the connected equipment will be displayed.
Ensure that all the required equipment is displayed.
Click on connect all, this will cause the red mark against the equipment to turn green.
The tab named Overview contains the basic data to be monitored, including radio parameters such as
Ec/No, RSCP, etc. The same tab also contains information about the current channel being used such a
CGI, timeslot, ARFCN, etc.
Click on logfiles and scroll down to recording properties, here give the path where the logfiles have to be
recorded. Clicking on the record button will allow the data to be recorded into the desired path.
After finishing this process we press on Prnt Scrn button --paint---ctrl v---Ctrl S
Save this ping value at suitable place.
All this process I have to do in Each and every Sector.
DYNAMIC DRIVE TEST:In the dynamic drive test we have to move the each sector
With kit connect and record its values of RSCP & Ec/No.The Value of RSCP & Ec/No should be good.
In dynamic Drive test we have to test Coverage of all the sectors in Long call and short call.
Long Call:- Long call means continuous call on testing number
Short Call:-It means after a particular time its call will disconnect again its will go on testing no. this
process will repeat .
For Short call we can make a scenario also---Control----Command sequence---edit-----voice /video--click on + button---dial---Phone no-(*69)--duration---30 Sec
After that for no. of exec.-change this value more than 1000.
Just like this you have to cover each & every sector just like this as shown in above figure. We have to
take handover of another site.
Handover:In 3G there are mainly three types of handover.
Soft Handover
Softer Handover
Hard Handover
This document has entailed the basics of conducting a drive test. The different modes, types and
procedures used to carry out a drive test are defined above. It should be remembered that these are
basic guidelines that should be followed; actual procedure depends on the customer and task
requirement.
How to Lock WCDMA in Laptop:
This type of mark will show on the top of the TEMS ,From that place you can lock WCDMA or GSM
mode.
This is Recoding button for start the recoring of Log files.
This will show on the top of the MAP window, this is layer control from here you can put site ,vector etc. to
show in the TEMS MAP window.
This is connecting button for connect the mobile,GPS etc.
READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE START THE DYNAMIC DRIVE TEST:
Performing Drive Test:
Take all the necessary information initially required to reach up-to the place where the drive test has to be
performed. Then after, connect the kit, following the procedure given above. Go to the logfile icon before
connecting the equipments by clicking Connect All icon.
Click on the Recording Properties option. Then Browse the place where you want to get
the logfiles recorded.
Tick Quick logging, Swap files after reaching messages, Quick filemark and also
assign nos of samples you want in one logfile by providing any numerical value to the
option, Swap files aster reaching messages eg: 20,000 or 40,000.
Clear History buffer at the start of the new logfile should be un-tick.
Click O.K.
Then click on the red colored icon on the top of the page so as to start the recording.
You can see the samples getting collected by an indication at the bottom of the page.
As soon as the GPS gets acquired, you can see the sample on the Map Window.
Note:
Samples can be recorded only after clicking Start icon though, the samples can be seen
on the Map Window getting collected but will not be saved in the location until, Start
recording icon is clicked.
Record the logfiles properly and then after completion of he drive click on Stop recording
and then disconnect all equipments from the laptop by clicking Disconnect all option.
Then after disconnect every equipment, physically attached to the laptop, manually.
After recording, logfiles are ready to be Exported and making presentation plots for the
various parameters like RSCP Level, Ec/No,SC,CELL ID etc..
*Key points to be noted down while performing drive:
1) Keep an eye on the TEMS investigation windows.
2) Notice for any disconnection of the equipments attached to the laptop.
3) Audio Indication should also be active during the drive and listen to it carefully.
4) Have an eye on RSCP, Ec/No, & SCwindow, etc. so that, if they
get worsen, you can deduce for them from the various other parameters which are
displayed on TEMS investigation windows.
5) Suppose the call gets dropped, get stopped at the place. Come back for few dist.
And then try to make a call again. As soon as the call gets established, move
forward again. Recording should be made active for all the time.
6) Dont pause or stop the recording in between the drive, if the halt duration is
small.
7) While going to and fro from the same route, record the logfiles separately for the
routes. To analyze the logfiles for the particular path from the presentation plots,
it is required to have logfiles for either direction, seperately.
EXPORT THE LOG FILES AFTER FINISHING THE DRIVE TEST:
Log file--Export Log file----add
order--format change put---(map info tab file)--set up click--WCDMA---as CPICH RSCP---click on(>) button --ok----browse file click(Go to the log file where you
saved at the time of drive)--select all log files-----open---merge--ok---start
button click----close
after finishing the success.
After finishing the export it will show in your log files. You can open it in Mapinfo and u can analyse your
log files.
- Tx Power Mobile (note that high mobile power can mean either coverage or interference problem)
- Best SC regarding CPICH Ec/Io Check antennas and feeders are OK, with nothing obscuring view of
antenna, like block building, rooftop effect or any radiating object nearby the antenna pattern radiation,
consider reducing the antenna down-tilt to improve coverage. As a last resort, increase pilot power.
QUALITY: Best CPICH Ec/Io below required level - Best CPICH Ec/Io Scanner/Mobile
- RSSI CPICH from Scanner
- Best SC regarding CPICH Ec/Io Scanner/Mobile
- Best RSCP 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, () Scanner
- Tx Power Mobile If Ec/Io lower than -9 db (network without load), the best-server RSCP is at expected
levels, and the RSSI is high, need to reduce Interference from other cells.
Check Best RSCP 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, () in order to decide which cells to remove from the interference
area.
Can the azimuth of other cells be changed to reduce number .
