YET ANOTHER BOILOVER
---------------------------------------------------------------------------Sydney,NSW | The Melbourne Monarchs just keep on shocking the
National Super League and there was no bigger shock than when
they defeated the Sydney Blues 23-10 on Anzac Day.
John MacRae is doing a very, very impressive job. How
he has turned this franchise around in such a short time. Also the
way he has turned it around has been nothing short of impressive
said TV Analyst Greg Alexander after he called the amazing upset.
Earlier in the year the Monarchs forced 4 picks against
Rod Williams and the Diesels and today they topped that with 5
against Peter Harper. Making that more remarkable was that
Harper has only been intercepted once in the first 6 games of this
season. We disguise our coverages well. The key is not to just
disguise but to mix up when we blitz said MacRae who was keen
to heap praise on Defensive Coordinator Peter Laziou. Pete is just
a great coach and he makes it easy for me to concentrate on the
offense.
Whilst much was made of the Monarchs ability to force
turnovers, there real strength was in shutting down the Blues run
game. Sydney gained just 40 yards with the run and most of those
came late on. With no run game the Blues struggled to put points
on the board. After both sides added field goals the Monarchs
claimed a touchdown to Tight End Zac Tovo. Who scored after play
action sprung him open.
Whilst Sydney struggled to run, Montae Ball was having
a great day. He was tough and uncompromising and he stepped up
to lead his team. Montae was great for us today. He took it upon
himself to elad the team with his actions. He ran tough, he ran
hard and he gave us a great base to work from said MacRae.
Harper was picked for the first time and that set up
another field goal but Sydney bounced back with seconds to play
when their best Mark Walker was tough over the middle and he
broke through some weak tackles to score.
The second half and more so the fourth quarter was
dominated by turnovers. After Ball scored a deserved touchdown
to edge Melbournes lead out to 20-10, Sydney had 4 drives end in
picks. Melbourne added to the mirth with a pick of their own and
then a fumble which was Balls only blemish. At the end of the day
however Melbourne had left Sydney in tatters and once again they
had shocked everyone.
