LIGHT WAVES
Student Name |Written by Caitlyn Gallagher| Term 2, 2016|Level 5

Unit Description
Whilst undergoing this unit, students developed an understanding of the concept of light.
Throughout the five lessons students developed skills and knowledge on aspects of light, and put
their knowledge towards their own student designed investigations on light. As well as building on
their knowledge and understanding of light concepts, students were given the opportunity to build
greater understanding of research, and improve their investigating and reporting skills.

Here Cayden is working collaboratively during the

student designed investigation experiment.

Student comment
Absorbency is when something absorbs or takes in light
for example when a black piece of paper absorbs light.

Teacher comment
Caydens scientific vocabulary developed throughout the
unit as he demonstrated understanding of the key aspects
of light for example: reflection is when something or
someone flips from the light bouncing back. His science
inquiry skills developed as he demonstrated with
questioning for his group experiment What would
happen if we used black paper? he clearly explained the
procedure/method he followed and included a great
drawing of his findings.

Here Cayden is exploring refraction of light, by

participating in the bubbles experiment.
