Principal of Mydream High school
Honolulu, HI 33872 Dear Mr. McPrincipal: I am writing because I am extremely interested in your listed position for job number 356, Senior AP Creative Writing Teacher. As a recent graduate from Arizona State University, I have my Bachelors in Education with an emphasis in English-Language Arts and an SEI endorsement. My strengths in building positive relationships with students and coworkers, a collective of diverse teaching experiences, recent classes in curriculum and instruction strategies, and my ability to integrate reading and writing across curricula all equip me to be a huge asset to the Mydream School District. During my placement as a student teacher at Greenway High School in Phoenix, I tested and strengthened my knowledge on a broad range of teaching strategies and instructional resources. For example, I composed my lesson plans by first referring to the Common Core Standards to create a clear objective and assessment. Every students experience was enriched by my incorporation of differentiated lessons for diverse learning styles, IEPs, 504s, gifted/talented abilities, as well as cultural and socio-economic needs. I employed a variety of assessments to guarantee proof of measurable learning throughout each unit. I encouraged students to adopt an active responsibility for their own learning. My students fervently made premeditated selections, reflected on their own learning processes, collaborated with one another often, and submitted constant input to our ever-evolving classroom. Because of my clear daily learning targets each and every one of my students knew what we were learning, why we were learning it, and how it applied to the world beyond the classroom. My experiences and achievements beyond the university have enhanced my success as an educator as well. My Sign Language speaking ability and my experiences traveling abroad have broadened my awareness and proven to be a benefit both in the classroom and on campus. I have gained a much deeper understanding of what diversity means through my travels and have been able to shape meaningful and constructive relationships with a variety of students and peers. Additionally, my work as a published author and active writer further qualify me to instruct in the area of expressive writing. I truly believe that all humans are lifelong learners and I would love the opportunity to share this belief with the students and faculty of the Mydream School District. I hope to soon confer with you on how my experience and abilities can best meet the goals of your district. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Bethany Casselman
Enclosures: Resume and Application
Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
Hello there! I want to take a minute to welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year at Mydream High School. My name is Mrs. Casselman and I am your childs senior AP Creative Writing teacher. I am only teaching AP creative writing this year, so there will be no crossover of other classes. I am a graduate from Arizona State University with a bachelors degree in Education. I am a published author and a creative writing enthusiast, and I am so excited to help you through this creative process. In this course your child will be exploring their own imaginations and applying a variety of literary devices and techniques to express their thoughts through writing prompts. The quickest way to reach me is by email. I check my email daily and can generally get back to you within 24 hours. You can also call me at work and leave a voicemail, or a note with the front office. I can only return calls on my prep period, which is every day from 9:00-9:55, and during my scheduled office hours. My email is [email protected] and my phone number is (620) 853-9967 ext. 3321. Feel free to contact me anytime. My office hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00-7:30 a.m., and then from 2:45 p.m. - 3:00p.m. Lastly, I would like to notify you and your child of my expectations during this school year. I advocate that my students be responsible for their own educations, which is always a process for students. Being prepared for class, having assignments completed on time, actively participating in class and following classroom policies are a few of the responsibilities that I expect students to work on every day. I expect students to be open to exploring new ways of thinking and writing, and to be excited every day to get their thoughts down on paper. This class is fun and interesting, but it is also demanding and requires a great deal of passion for writing. I look forward to a great year. Together we can make this a successful year. Sincerely, Mrs. Casselman AP Creative Writing Teacher MDHS

Dear Mr. or Mrs. Poptopaliss, My name is Mrs. Casselman and I am you daughters Junior Language Arts teacher this year at Mydream High School. Amy is such a bright girl, and is always willing to help me when I need to make copies or grade papers. Recently Amy has not been turning in her homework and it is beginning to affect her grade in the class. I assign weekly journals that are each worth ten points and the last one I received from Amy was the beginning of this month on April 5th. There is also a missing writing project and two missing worksheets. Because of these missing assignments Amys grade has gone from an 89% to a 65%. I have spoken to Amy personally on two separate occasions April 12th and April 19th, but I have yet to receive any makeup work, which is why I am now reaching out to you. I would like for Amy to complete all of her missing assignments, and I will still give her points for them. If she can get them to me by the end of next week I will not take off any points, but any length of time after that will result in loss of points. I know Amy has the potential to be an A student in my class, and I hope we can all work together to get her there. Please feel free to respond to me directly through this e-mail, or you can call me during my regular school office hours Monday through Friday from 7:00 to 7:30 a.m. and then from 2:45 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. My daytime telephone number is (620) 853-9967 ext. 3321. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, Mrs. Casselman
