Dion Meneley
Asst. HC/Def. Coordinator/LBs
Assistant head coach Dion Meneley is in his fourth season on the Blue Dragon staff. He also
serves as the Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers coach.
In his three seasons at Hutchinson, Meneleys defenses have produced six NJCAA All-Americans and 28 all-Jayhawk Conference performers. Seventeen players under his tutelage moved
onto NCAA FBS programs.
In his first season with the Blue Dragons in 2012, Meneley served as co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. The 2012 Blue Dragons led the Jayhawk Conference in pass
defense scoring defense (23.6 ppg), second in total defense (347.3 ypg) and second in rush
defense (124.2 ypg). Defensive tackle Toby Johnson earned second-team NJCAA All-America
honors.
Last season, Meneleys defense was one of the best in the Jayhawk Conference with bookend
defensive ends Marquavius Lewis (2014 Jayhawk Conference Defensive Player of the Year,
1st-team All-American) and Jeremiah Ledbetter (2nd-team All-American). The 2014 Blue Dragons captured the programs first conference title and had its highest final national ranking of No.
4 after a record 11-1 season.
In 2013, Meneley became the full-time defensive coordinator and moved to linebackers. HCC
posted three shutouts, including a 59-0 whitewashing of Dakota College in the Salt City Bowl.
Defensive back Jaylon Myers was a first-team NJCAA All-American and Shattle Fenteng was a
second-team All-American.
A native of Topeka, Meneley came to Hutchinson with experience and the NAIA and NCAA
Division II levels.
Before Hutchinson, Meneley was an assistant coach at Fort Hays State University where he was the defensive coordinator for the Tigers in
2011 as well as coaching the defensive line.
Before that, he spent four seasons as the defensive coordinator at Southwestern College in Winfield.
Prior to coaching at Southwestern, Meneley spent four seasons on the staff at Washburn University, where he was part of a Mineral Water
Bowl championship, the schools first MIAA conference championship, and first NCAA II Playoff Appearance.
While at Washburn, Meneley coached the outside linebackers, cornerbacks, and defensive. He also coached two All-Americans in his time
with the Ichabods.
Meneley was a two-time first team All-MIAA selection at outside linebacker for Pittsburg State. During his playing career, he was a part of
three MIAA championships and the 1995 team that finished as the NCAA Division II runner-up. He was a team captain for the Gorillas in
1999.
Meneley received his bachelors degree in General Studies from Pittsburg State University in 2004 and he is currently working toward a
masters degree in Leadership from Southwestern College.
Meneley is married to the former Misti Marsh.
