How will you know what the students know and are able to do at
the end of the lesson?

Students will be able to correlate musical rhythms


with the syllables used by Kodalys method.

Students will be assessed by two worksheets over the


syllable recognition. As well as an ending activity of
creating their own measure of rhythm shown by proper
syllables.
The teacher will be able to get immediate feedback
over the closing activity as well as feedback from the
worksheets collected.

Students will be able to correlate musical rhythms


with 1 and 2 syllable words.

Be very specific so that a qualified substitute teacher could accomplish the lesson from this plan. Number the activities and

Instructions
Class will start off with a Call and Response activity
with rhythm sticks to get the students engaged for the
lesson.
After the activity start the PowerPoint and go over
discussing note names and proper syllables.
Teacher will play a measure of 4/4 on rhythm sticks
and have students repeat the rhythm. After a couple of
minutes move on to PowerPoint.
Teacher will give an example of their favorite food and
match it with the proper notes. Then the students will
be asked to match their favorite food and match with
the proper notes. Have a couple share with class.
Review the lesson then have students create a measure
of rhythm and have them use the proper syllables
taught in call. Have each student say their measure in
time with a 4/4 measure of rest after each student.
