CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
This chapter discusses the general process of the student online

registration system and official website of Special Science Elementary School.
This chapter also states the usefulness and possible drawbacks of the
aforementioned system.
1.1 Introduction and Its Background
Most schools nowadays use computers in transacting with their students.

Schools are now making their registration systems computerized and online
using internet because using an online registration system will help the school
minimize the time and efforts consumed by using manual systems.
Using the manual system was waste of time and materials can make
registration time a nightmare for public schools and school districts. Even smaller
charter schools struggle to make registration periods an efficient process for
administrators, teachers, parents and students. Online registration is a wonderful
opportunity for a school district or a charter school to redirect its energy towards
the parents and students who need it, while leaving the paperwork aspect of the
job in one secure, fast, and convenient location.
Information management (IM) is the collection and management of
information from one or more sources and the distribution of that information to
one or more audiences. This sometimes involves those who have stake in, or a
right to that information. Management means the organization of and control over
the structure, processing and delivery of information. These features will be
compiled in a website in the internet, in order to make it easier for
students/parents to register via computer and be informed of all the activities that
the school has.
The benefit of school Website include communication to a wide audience,
extended and independent learning resources for students, flexible evaluation
tools for teachers, promoting increased involvement of parents, supporting
student learning, showcasing student work and the school environment, and
enhancing relationships between schools and other stakeholders in the
educational process.
In addition to providing information to a variety of beneficiaries in the
educational process, elementary school Web sites can also serve as a source of
additional resource for teachers. For example, teachers can post important
course information such as the syllabus, course content, and assignments to an
audience via an elementary school Web site. This acts as a catalyst for
communication between teachers, parents, and students. Consequently, not only
is it more likely that beneficiaries needs will be met, but also, they may be more
inclined to use the elementary school Web site, which could potentially lead to
greater participation by both parents and students.

1.3 Objective of the Study
1.3.1 General Objective
To develop a Student Online Registration System integrated in the Official

Website of Special Science Elementary School which improves efficiencies and
eliminates unnecessary paperwork.
1.3.2 Specific Objective
To design and develop school official website will view basic information about
the school.
To design and develop a web-based student registration that gives more
systematic and faster registration.

To centralize the data and allows keeping track of registered student records.
To inform the student for the possible events or activities in the school.
To design a system that is secured which cannot be modified or retrieved by
unauthorized person.
1.4 Significance of the Study
The significance of this study focuses on the following beneficiaries stated

below:
To the School
The system will benefit the Special Science Elementary School because
through this project they are more capable to provide better service for the
students/parents.
To the Teachers
Through online registration, the teachers will no longer have to manually
encode the record of the students.
To the Parents and Students
Through online registration, the students will no longer have to sacrifice

their time and effort to go to the school and manually enroll themselves.
To the Future Researchers
This research study will serve as their reference materials and guide in
doing their own research. They may also use the ideas and findings written
therein.
1.4 Scope and Limitation
Scope
This system has a website.
In the website, these are the following
features, one of it is the online registration, student will fill-up forms via web and
the data will be sent to the server administrator. And also the website has a
computerized bulletin board, it contains the news, announcements and activities
that the school has. Lastly, the school can advertise anything they want to show
or promote from their organization.
Limitations
This system does not include student information system because they
are already using a separate system for that which is provided by the Department
of Education called Learners Information System(LIS).
The system requires internet connection, else accessing to the system does not
take place.
Only the administrator is capable to edit or modify the records of the
student.
1.6 Definition of Terms
Website
a group of world wide web pages usually containing
hyperlinks to each other and made available online by an individual, company,

educational institution, government, or organization.
System - an organized procedure or an instructional guide used by any
organizations to direct business operation in the different department.
Cyber Space - the notional environment in which communication over computer
networks occurs.
Technology
- the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes,
especially in industry. Machinery and equipment developed from the application
of scientific knowledge. The branch of knowledge dealing with engineering or

applied sciences.
Registration - is the process of establishing your identity with an institution.
Record - To write down so that it can be used or seen again in the future.
