My advert was for ray bans, ray ban Throughout its seven-and-a-half
decades, Ray-Ban has been instrumental in pushing boundaries in music
and the arts, forging the rise of celebrity culture, and creating the power
of the rock and movie stars to influence fashion. From James Dean to
Audrey Hepburn to Michael Jackson, Ray-Ban has proven indispensable for
cultural icons who dont want to be seen - but definitely want to be
noticed. Ray-Ban has left an indelible mark on culture history,

, my advert was aimed at teenagers to adults and middle to upper class.

In most ray ban adverts including the ray ban never hide advert to
support their campaign, they use young adults and show the sunglasses
as a fun, fashionable product. Also on the website they use people of the
similar age (young adults) to advertise and wear the products therefore
my target audience and who this advert is aimed at would be teenagers to
young adults as I am one and will be used people my age in my advert, I
have tried to aim it at both genders; using male and females in my advert.
How successful where these elements in developing your idea to the final
product?
Storyboards
Mind maps
Discussion notes
Comments from peers and teachers
During the development of my idea and product I had to think a lot and
plan what I was going to do in my advert, by planning I was able to use
guides I had used to try my ideas and follow concepts I created.
I used story boards to help illustrate the different camera angles and
scenes within my advert, this helped contribute to the successfulness of
developing my final product and idea as I had a set plan to follow and had
planned ahead by creating my storyboards; therefore not making up ideas
on the spot and creating a guide to follow when recording footage for my
advert; by having a storyboard I was able to make my advert more
interesting by using different camera angles which I had drew to use. The
use of these angles makes my advert more personal to the viewer and is
directly aimed at the audience. Throughout the adverts I have tried to
include different angles to make the advert look better; to improve it
aesthetic qualities; by using storyboards I was able to experiment using
different angles.
Mind maps enabled me to explore my ideas in depth, I created a few mind
maps as I had two possible ideas. In my advert Im using people walking
normally down a road and when the ray ban glasses are put on they see a
fun unrealistic world and snap back to reality when the glasses are taken
off, another idea was that they make you feel young so an older person
put the glasses on and they feel young again as ray bans are a
fashionable product, I have tried to contribute the two ideas together; As
my idea is that there are people walking down a street and when they out
the ray ban sunglasses on they perceive the street as different, a fun
colourful street and when they take the sunglasses off they snap back to
reality, I also thought this could give a message to older people as well as
the target audience that the sunglasses make you cool, make you have
fun, I think I did this by using a catwalk idea to help give the message that

ray bans make you feel like a model- young and beautiful and also used
my main idea which was reality without the glasses on and a catwalk
scene when the glasses are on to help represent how you feel when
wearing ray bans. Mind maps helped me structure my idea and expand
onto aspects of it.
Below are two basic mind maps of mine!

Discussion notes from my pitch helped me with feedback from surveys

and peers and teachers suggesting what needed to be improved and
talked about the aesthetic qualities and techniques and helped me
understand what needed improving and what they thought was good;
therefore I could improve on the editing of my advert as peers suggested
that the green screen was a bit bad in some scenes which made it
unrealistic as the background was to show the non-realistic background
which was a catwalk to help represent the way you feel when you wear
the ray bans; I received feedback saying the idea was good. So comments
and from peers and teachers helped me understand so what needed
improving, so I used their comments and feedback and survey results to
alter my advert to improve it, an example of an improvement I made
which was suggested in feedback as well as in my own opinion, was the
flow of music from the intro to when the beat drops in the music I used
which was Kanye West- black skinhead. Another positive comment was
that the music was being illustrated by the images and footage meaning
they go together and work well which was as good a mix of feedback.

This is when the music changes from the intro to the more upbeat music
which I think is suitable and shows a change almost like pathetic fallacy of
the advert by changing the atmosphere from slow which shows the
realistic part of the idea and fast upbeat change to help represent he nonrealistic feel you get from wearing the ray bans which is done by using a
catwalk which I think was effective and at first it didnt flow as good and I
changed this from editing.

this is where he music

changes rhythm

I think that my production was successful due to various elements

including the visual style; I received feedback from the use of
questionnaires I created on survey monkey; my peers responded that they

Isla Dhillon

thought it was a good idea that the theme was black and white as there
were connotations of the actual product as ray bans logo is silver/ white
and some frames although you can get them in different colours, the ones
I used in my advert were black. Throughout the advert I have tried to
include different angles to make the advert look better; to improve it
aesthetic qualities. I have used connotations of black and white
throughout my advert to help display a catwalk theme as in my advert my
characters walk a catwalk with ray ban sunglasses on, the idea being that
when you wear ray ban sunglasses you can feel and look like a model.
Connotations of black and white throughout my advert have been used to
help represent the catwalk idea and feel, to help demonstrate my idea for
my advert that when you wear ray ban sunglasses you feel like a model
and I also did this to help collaborate my second idea which was, that with
ray bans on you are no longer in reality as ray bans as this product is seen
as fashionable and are a well-known sunglasses brand. I also received
feedback saying that the use of my variety of camera angles helped the
visual style, I used a mid shot; close up, two shot, side shot and many
more. The use of these angles I think makes my advert more personal to
the viewer and is directly aimed at the audience and overall improves its
visual style.
I think my soundscape was appropriate for my advert because the rhythm
illustrated my footage as it was time with the beat and the movement of
the models. The song i used was Kanye West black skinhead; which
consists of an delicate intro that eventually turns into a upbeat rhythm
which I tried to use effectively as the intro suited the beginning when my
model Lucy is walking around college with ray bans on and then the
advert becomes more upbeat as it zooms into my model Victoria where
the upbeat rhythm is more suited as its in time with the movement of the
model as they are walking on the catwalk.
I think my advert was appropriate for my target audience that consist of
both male and female, middle to upper class and ranging from teenagers
to young adults. I think its relatable to my target audience as n my advert
I have used both female and male characters evenly to not make it seem
like this product was aimed mainly at one gender. As i am a teenager
myself my peers are the same age as me and as I used my peers in my
advert i think this contributes to the appropriateness of my advert as my
target audience are teenagers to young adults. I did some research to as
well as sent surveys to my peers to find out if they thought my target
audience would find my advert suitable and the results from my survey
supported this. Think i chose a suitable target audience and that overall
my advert was appropriate to my audience because of many aspects and I
can relate to them.
My advert is different from my original intentions as my catwalk idea only
came to me when I was actually recording footage, at first I was going to
just use a non-realistic street background using the green screen to help

Isla Dhillon

show what ray bans make you feel like when you put them on compared
to what other people can see- the realistic normal college scenery, which I
did actually use in the intro. I think my catwalk idea was more suitable as
it not only represented the feel that you get when you wear ray bans but
was overall a better idea.

Thi is results from a

survey i sent to
other stdent stdying
creative media,
they anylsd y
advert and ansered
what they thought
was good about the
technical qualities
and the editing,
although some
comments told me i
needed o imprve n
specific thngs i took
this ina good way
as it was helping
me understand wha
was good and what
wasnt.
