Assignments:
Assignments would be assigned at least one week before the due date and must be submitted on
or before due date. No late assignment will be accepted. Total of 3 assignments would be
assigned during the semester. You have to be very careful while you are solving your assignment.
Please do not try copy from someone else in order to avoid any problem at the end of the
semester.

Class Quizzes:
To check the class performance, sudden death test or class quizzes would be taken in class
throughout the semester. At least 4 quizzes would be taken during the semester. These quizzes
have to be solved in the class and they would be of short duration. There would be no LATE
submission or MAKEUP for these quizzes.

TELECOMMUNICATION ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
5th SEMESTER, BATCH 2014
LINEAR CONTROL SYSTEMS (EE-340)
OBJECTIVES & COURSE INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

OBJECTIVES:
This course introduces the linear feedback control systems. This is a multidisciplinary course
equally applicable to electrical, chemical, mechanical, aeronautical engineering. In this course
the components of a linear feedback control system are introduced. The design methodology in
order to achieve desired response is presented. Stability and design issues are discussed. The
concepts covered in the lectures will be elaborated in the computer on MATLAB and
SIMULINK.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Having successfully completed the course, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and
understanding of:
a basic structure of open loop and feedback control system
essential components of feedback control system
a transfer function and its importance
a state-space representation
how to obtain transfer function using different methods
time domain specifications of a first order and higher order system
basic design using time domain specifications
PID Controller and the function of its gains.
importance of poles and zeroes
stability and Routh-Hurwitz Stability criterion
the use of graphical techniques such as root locus, bode plot in order to analyze the
performance of control system
