FLASH AND FIRE POINT ABEL APPARATUS

Aim:
To find out the flash and fire point of the given fuel.
Apparatus required:
1. Thermometers.
2. Abel apparatus.
Procedure:
1. Fill the water in the water chamber and place the thermometer in it.
2. The sample of fuel is filled in the brass cup.
3. Cover the brass cup and place the thermometer in it.
4. Switch on the water heater.
5. Heat is transferred from water to fuel.
6. Stir the water to have a uniform distribution of heat.
7. A small test flame is directed in to the fuel.
8. At particular temperature, the oil surface gets fire and immediately shut down.
9. Note down the temperature at this stage. This temperature is known as flash point.
10. Again heat the fuel, the temperature will increase.
11. At particular temperature, the fuel surface gets fire and continuously.
12. Note this temperature. This temperature is called fire point.
13. Tabulate the readings.
