November 2015
Thanks to everyone for attending our recent
Parent/Teacher Conferences. We really love
to share about your childs learning progress
and also enjoy getting to know you a little bit
better. Thank you for teaming with us on
skill practice and behaviors.

Literacy
We continue Unit 3 in Reading with stories about
Going Places. It includes awesome stories
about a dinosaur, city sounds, and walking a dog.
Our high frequency words that we will study the
next three weeks will be to, and, and go. Also we
will work on the letters Ii, Nn, and Cc. We are
growing our vocabulary and using these words in
our stories during Writers Workshop time. At
the beginning of Unit 4, we take a look Around
the Neighborhood. We will find out what
people use to do their jobs and also practice the
often-used high frequency word you and the
vowel letter Oo.

Integrated
Studies

Quarter 2 finds us continuing to rotate to other

Kindergarten classrooms. This is a super
opportunity for students to experience another
teacher (and classroom!) for a few minutes
daily. Miss Fayle and Mrs. Zetterman are
leading our Social Studies unit on Celebrations
(holidays), Mrs. Sellenrick and Mrs. Johnson
are exploring science with Sink, Float &
Dissolve experiments and activities, and Mrs.
Lindberg and Miss Miles discuss making
healthy choices and saying no to drugs.

This and That

As the weather turns colder, you may want to
stay in your car when you pick up your child
at dismissal time. Please pull into the loop
and we will be watching for your car (kids
are great at this!) and we will send your child
to your car. We do ask that you help
acknowledge a safe delivery by having your
child wave back to us. As always, if you are
parking and getting out of the car, we ask
that you be a good role model and always
use the crosswalk. Thanks for your help!

Math
Mathematician magicians--that is what our
Kindergartners are turning into at Adams School! In
Unit 2 we have been reviewing and building on our
knowledge of the numbers 1 through 10. By using a
5-group as a building block, we are able to
understand numbers 6 through 10. We also work
with number partners, look for relationships in
numbers and begin building our understanding of
teen numbers by showing fingers as a ten and extra
ones. Ask us to show you this quick practice routine!
Also by acting out real life situations, we are learning
to add and subtract with story problems. When we
begin Unit 3, we explore partners through 6. Later in
November, we will be introduced to a couple of new
math toolsthe Ten Bug and the Break-Apart sticks.
We are certain you will hear about our new exciting
and engaging learning tools! Again please ask us to
tell you morewe love sharing!

Reminder temperatures are often low

and cold (and windy!) when we go outside
for our lunchtime and afternoon recess so
coats, gloves, and hats are often
necessary. Please make certain all
clothing articles are labeled with names
