Demonstration: Bring up 2 students, have each of them grab a hula hoop and one bean bag, set the
hula hoop about 3 feet away from your partner and then face them while staying inside the hula hoop,
have the first student demonstrate the underhand throw to show the class.
Feet shoulder width the part, step with opposite foot, arm back, move forward, release, and follow
through (tic, toc, target) while the other student demonstrates catching.
Does everyone understand? *ask random students questions to check for understanding
Once you thing they are ready, say once I say Go I want you to find a partner and get 2 hula hoops
and a beanbag
Warm up: Freeze tag
Extension task 1: You and your partner go to an area around the room where you have plenty of room
and space for safety, I will start to play the music and see how many throws and catches you and
your partner can get in a row without the beanbag hitting the floor. Ask the groups how many they got
in a row.
Extension task 2: Move the hula hoops back a couple feet and continue to see how many catches
you can get in a row still
Extension Task 3: Grab a ball instead of a bean bag and make it more challenging on your partner,
throw it lower, higher, faster, but not too fast.

Friday: extend
Wednesdays lesson
(accuracy and games)

Refinement Task:

Groups of 3: 1 throwing, 1 catching, 1 holding a hoop for a target to throw through

Within
lesson
use the poly spots to show the ways the students should step when tossing

Once the students stretch and run their laps, we will play stuck in the mud which
is a form of freeze tag and to get un-frozen, another student will have to crawl
through your legs.

Groups of 3: 1 throwing, 1 catching, 1 holding a hoop for a target to throw through

1 point for good technique on the underhand toss; 1 point for the catch; 2 points if
you throw it through the hoop
For student evaluation I will use the honor system, I will ask the person in the
group who is holding the hula hoop to keep track of how many points their team
earned.

Contingency Plan:

Technology Integration:

If the gym is taken up and cannot be used, I will take

the students outside and let them play on the jungle
gym and playground, and also take a couple
students at a time and give them an individual lesson
if possible. If the students are late there is nothing I
can do about it so I will just incorporate them into the
lesson when they come in after giving them a brief
introduction on what we are doing. If I have a double
class I will continue the lesson as planned.

I will be using music as start and stop signals and if

possible I would like to be able to get a camera to
show students their progress if they would like to see
it.

(Music, Heart Rate Monitors, Pedometers, FLIP video cameras,

digital cameras, etc,)

(What if you have to go outside? What if you do not have the

gymnasium? What if the students are late? What if you have a
double class?)

Reflection: 1
Strengths of the Lesson:
1)

Use of stop and start signal

2) Good energy level

Specific Areas of Improvement for Next Lesson:

1) Clear direction and boundary
2)

Closure should be included in your lesson

My Reflection:
Things that went well:
1) The kids were having a lot of fun and were always active, I used short brief instructions and
they really seem to get the hang of it
2) I used a lot of student names and instructional cues during my instruction and during the
activities whether it was for feedback or reinforcement
3) The music was a very good start and stop signal because that is what the students are used
to, Ms. Christopher always uses the word Freeze and the students listen to that so I used
that and it worked well.
4) I also thought that the goals of my lesson were achieved for the most part, there were a few
times towards the end the students started to lose track of the goals but I thought they listen
and did a great job
Things that need improvement:
1) The structure of the core lesson; the students need to be put into groups and line them up
vertically down the basketball court and not let them spread out by themselves because it was
pretty hectic and it would be easier to manage if they were more organized
