Week 7 Collaborate

1. To present an argument for why you might encourage your students

to collaborate.
I encourage my students to collaborate because it has many benefits to
develop students knowledge and learning skills. Collaboration is a
practice to do a task with among people working together. Through the
process, interaction, engagement, motivation, awareness, selfsynchronisation, participation, mediation, reciprocity and reflection
involved. It is called collaboration life-cycle. Collaboration can be process
in real time interaction or time-shifted. For example, it can be collaborate
in an online meeting, like university online life collaboration session; it can
be time-shifted such as recording collaboration session or communication
in a discussion board, uploading documents or contribute in a wiki,
members will make contribution later, not instantly. There is a list of
technologies we can use for collaboration. The most common is google
docs.

2. To create a list of technologies that, as teachers, you can use to

enable your students to collaborate.
Hardware Technology
Computer

Software Technology
Google Docs

Laptop
Ipad
Tablets
Smartphone
Iphone
Interactive whiteboard
(IWB)
Calculator
Digital Camera
Smartpens
Digital Microscope
Digital recorder
Projector

3. To apply one of those technologies to a range of classroom activities

of the teams devising. This week the focus of the classroom activity
should be on collaboration.
PowerPoint is used in the class
The PowerPoint that is played in the classroom is about basic needs of
plants and animals, food that plants and animals will be produced, plants
and animals can provide materials for clothing and shelter. The content
related to year 2 content descriptions of Design and Technologies. It is
engaged to the content description of explore how plants and animals
are grown for food, clothing and shelter and how food is selected and
prepared for healthy eating (ACTDEK003) (Australian Curriculum, 2015).
Activities in the PowerPoint prompt students negotiation and their views.
Open discussion occurs in the activities, students ideas are freely
explored. It provides interactive communication, it brings disparate views
together. Teachers monitor students responses in the discussion. The
PowerPoint contains some clear simple images. It describes some food
comes from particular animals, students prior knowledge is implemented
in it. It helps teachers to explore new knowledge in the class. The

PowerPoint content is about food. The PowerPoint highlights the direct

sustainability of life. Students will know what is harvested from animals
and plants. It evaluates and explains the technologies and design of
animals can provide materials for clothing and shelter, products emerged
with technologies impact on the individual, society and environments.
Through the PowerPoint, students understand appropriate innovation with
techniques and technology which can produce something to make our
society effective. By understanding the processes of food production and
products from plants and animals, students will develop the knowledge of
production system and management system of food and plants. Effective
teaching approaches are used to enhance the learning outcomes.
Some effective pedagogical practices are used in the class. The
PowerPoint made students engage through activities, and challenging
questions are involved. One of the teaching approaches is the teacher
using organisational skills in the PowerPoint to show clear learning
objectives to ensure students understand the concepts clearly. The video
will be played safely in a classroom. Teachers are next to them supporting
them in learning. Teachers monitor students during activities. Teachers
provide feedback in a timely way, allowing students to know how they are
progressing. After the PowerPoint is played, teachers encourage students
and develop their ability to do reflective thinking and action. Teachers will
provide a piece of paper which with some sentences related to the video
and require students to think critically evaluate the animals and plants
and think if there is any other animals and plants can produce food or
product or shelter for us, also ask them to create a new product and draw
it on the paper. It is a strategy to foster students imagination and
creativity. Teachers facilitate shared learning in the class when students
are engaged in activities sharing their ideas with peers.
