ABSTRACT

Nowadays, a stable and reliable electrical power supply system is an inevitable

pre-requisite for the advancement and growth of a society. This study efforts to formulate
a stable and reliable electrical design and secondary distribution system for Mapawa,
Malasag, Cagayan de Oro City. Mapawas current electrical system by evaluation is
predominantly faulty, no provision for future load and does not follow the strict standards
set by the Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) in installing electrical system. Mapawa needs
to improve and redesign their current system to support the needs of the whole area in
the near future. This study aims to achieve a reliable, secure, efficient, and economical
design that would suit the needs of the end users. In creating the electrical design,
surveying and ocular inspection to the site was done to know the condition of the place
for proper analysis. Afterwards, the load schedule of individual households and buildings
was made in order to cater the calculation of the total load to determine the sizing of the
conductors, transformer and respective protections. All the guidelines mandated by the
Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) was strictly followed. Calculations like short circuit
analysis, voltage drops and cable ampacity were done in order to ensure reliability of the
design. Results of the study show that the conductors are sized to be capable to carry full
loads, has protection and shows a lesser voltage drop. Furthermore, the researchers
propose to add a 25 kVA transformer to the 50 kVA single phase in order to outfit the
whole load of the system and its growing demands and also to correct voltage drop. All
things considered, the plan created ensures safety, efficiency and reliability of the whole
of Mapawa.
