ELO evaluation

This ELO is evaluating your ability to determine frequency responses of transfer

functions, using a simulation program. You are expected to do your own work. A
neat document is required in the end. All your results must be put in one Word
document, using Words Equations where applicable.
All simulations graphs (Time and Bode) asked for must be inserted in the same
document, but with a white background. It is preferred that you put your
readings (with units) in tables, where applicable.
Repeat the numbers 1 to 7 below in your document, for clarity.
1. Put your name and Peoplesoft number at the top of the document.
2. Type, if it is true: I declare this is my own work, I copied it from no-one or
nowhere else.

F=

3. Determine

Your Peoplesoft no
1387054

. Document the result (F = ) to 4

significant numbers.
This F is going to be used twice below.
4. Start with the Basic_simulation program and plot the Open loop gain and
phase, setting the Gain
point at 0 dB, the Phase point at -180, and the Frequency point at

F 50

5 Hz (Fdelt = 5 Hz).
Choose the remainder of the interface values sensibly.
Your name must be in the title block of the Bode graph.
Document the Bode graph (by inserting it in your document).

5. Consider the transfer function

s 2+ 2 t t s+ t2
1
TRF= 2

2
s +2 b b s+ b T A s +1

, with

t =0.02
t =F b
b =0.4
b=2 100.0
T A=

1
2 50.0

rad/s
s

Determine the gain (in dB) and phase equations for TRF.
Calculate the gain (in dB) and the phase (in ) of TRF at 20 Hz, 50 Hz and
100 Hz.
Document your gain and phase equations, and in a table: your calculated
results.

6. Simulate TRF and determine the gain and phase at 20 Hz, 50 Hz and 100 Hz
with BODECALC,
reading them off as accurately as possible.
Document the Bode graph (with your name in the title block) and in a table:
the gains and phases
that were read.
7. Apply a sine wave of 50.0 Hz to the TRF in the simulation, and determine
from the input and
output signals the gain (in dB) and phase (in ) as accurately as possible.
Document the Time graph, and in a table: amplitude and time readings and
the gain and phase
determined with this method.
You should have gotten nearly but not exactly identical answers with the
different methods in 5, 6 and 7. So do the readings and calculations accurately
enough that the small differences can be seen.
Submit your document to Vula, before 17:00. If everything is not completed by
16:55, submit what you have done at that stage.
