Greek Gods and Goddesses:


A. Gods:
1. Apollo- Apollo was the son of Leto and Zeus. He was born on the island of Delos;
He and his twin sister Artemis, also an Olympian, shared an aptitude for archery.
2. Ares- Ares was most notably referred to as the God of War; he represented the
unpleasant aspects of battle.
3. Dionysus- God of wine.
4. Hades- God of the underworld.
5. Hephaestus- God of fire.
6. Hermes- Messenger of Gods.
7. Poseidon- God of water.
8. Zues- God of thunder

B. Goddesses:
1. Aphrodite- Goddess of love, fertility and beauty.
2. Artemis- Goddess of wildlife and patroness of hunters.
3. Athena- Goddess of war; counterpart of Ares.
4. Demeter- Goddess of harvest and fertility
5. Hera- Queen of Olympian Gods; gracious protector of heroes.
6. Hestia- Although Hestia appeared in a few stories, she was not overly significant
in Greek mythology; She was a sibling to Demeter, Hades, Poseidon, Hera, and Zeus.

II. Roman Gods and Goddesses


A. Gods:
1. Jupiter - King of the Gods
2. Neptune - God of the Sea
3. Pluto - God of Death
4. Apollo - God of the Sun
5. Mars - God of War
6. Cupid - God of Love
7. Mercury - Messenger of the Gods
8. Vulcan - The Smith God
9. Bacchus - God of Wine
10. Saturn - God of Time
11. Janus - God of Doors
12. Plutus - God of Wealth
13. Uranus and Gaia - Parents of Saturn

B. Goddesses:
1. Juno - Queen of the Gods
2. Diana - Goddess of the Moon
3. Venus - Goddess of Love
4. Minerva - Goddess of Wisdom
5. Ceres - The Earth Goddess
6. Proserpine - Goddess of the Underworld
7. Vesta - Goddess of the Home
8. Maia - Goddess of Growth
9. Flora - Goddess of Flowers
