What is Kodachrome?
Brief History
Eastman Kodak first introduced it in 1935
Became very Successful in Filmmaking and
Photography
The film was discontinued in:
1996 (64 film in 120 format) 2002(ISO25),
2005 (ISO40in8mm), 2007 (ISO200), 2009(ISO64)
It was the oldest film to survive until December 2010
when it lastly processed
Film slide
Autochrome and Dufaycolor were the easiest color
processes before Kodachrome hit the market
They were used to achieve color in film, but they
were really addictive
Film Structure
Sheet forms were made
available by November 1938.
It was professional film with
sizes:
3 x 4 in (8.25 x 10.8 cm)
To 8 x 10 in (20.3 x 25.4 cm)
Then the sizes extended to:
2 1/4 x 3 1/4 inches (6 x 9 cm)
to 11 x 14 inches (28 x 35.5
cm).
The first color film test was to showcase the color. The video has no
sound but it shows women.
Qualities of Kodachrome
Emulsion:
I. Dye couplers were added after
II. Emulsion layers are much thinner so light is less spread
out when it is exposed. The film will capture sharper
images appose to the other film types. (Velvia)
. Color:
I. Kodachrome makes your images look soft, pretty and
attractive. While some films make your image look either
over saturated or fuzzy.

Storage:
I. If kept in a dark place the film can keep its color
density for many years.
. Resoluion:
I. A 35mm Kodachrome transparency, like other
35mm transparencies on films of comparable
ISO rating, contains an equivalent of
approximately 20 megapixels of data in the 24
mm x 36 mm image
