10 A body rhyme

each part.

Activity

1 Choose a part of your classroom with enough space for actions, or go


outside.
2 Ask all the children to do the actions with you while you say the
rhyme. For example,
These are my hands,
This is me.
Come out and play,
One, two, three.

These are my legs,


These are my feet.
This is how
I hop along the street.

These are my arms,


These are my knees.
This is how
I fly like the bees.

This is my neck,
This is my head.
This is how
I go to bed.

This is my hair.
Look, Im dancing
Like a bear.

These are my eyes,


This is my nose.
Now look down,
these are my toes.

These are my ears


This is mouth
Listen to me
I can shout!!

Now you know


Im just like you.

Variation

Help your learners to do this rhyme as a class performance. Give each


pair two lines to say. Let them practise using dramatic gestures.

Pronunciation

Practise the stress pattern in phrases with this and these.


THESE are my EYES, THIS is my NOSE ...
Make sure children say the same final sound /k/ in stomach, back,
neck, and Jack.

Follow-up suggestion

Let the children draw some pictures of themselves doing the actions.
