Language Standards

VI.
Diversity / Differentiation:
This class is a moderate/severe SDC class with students ranging from kindergarten
through 3rd grade. The lesson has been fully adapted to meet the needs of all learners.
The information is projected on the large screen so it is easy for all students to see. The
students are divided into small groups with classroom aides to assist in the assignment
to describe the farm animals. For those unable to write, the Speech Notes App will be
available. Also for non-verbal students who are also unable to write, the App
Proloquo2Go will be available to assist the students with the assignment.
VII.
Technology Inclusion:
The technology in the class will first include the Elmo projector and screen. This
will enable the YouTub video to be projected large enough for the whole class to see
clearly. The Smartboard will be used for interactive learning games..The App
Speech Notes-Free on the IPads will be used for students who are unable to write. The
App Proloquo2Go will be used to help studnets will newly acquired vocabulary
words.
VIII. Prior Knowledge: Prior to this lesson, students have: learned about various farm animals
Lesson Placement in the Unit: This is lesson _3_ of _10__.

Procedures:
2. Direct Instruction:
Using the smartboard, display the vocabulary words for the day.

These include: dairy farmer, feed, fields, water stalls milking
area. Display a picture of each vocabulary word next to the
written definition.
Discuss dairy cows and the different food products that are
produced with milk. Give some examples if the students are
having trouble. Using the smartboard, display a large blank
outline of a dairy cow and several pictures of food items (large
variety including all dairy products).
3. Student Interaction with lesson content / Guided Practice:
After the vocabulary word instruction, play a game with the
students. List the words on one side and the picture/definition
on the other side (scrambled). Have the students take turns
using the smartboard pen to connect the word with the
picture/definition.
Have the students take turns dragging each dairy item into the
blank outline of the cow until all of the dairy items are sorted.
4. Review / Closure:
Let the students know that tomorrow they will be making
BUTTER!
Video journal prompt: What is your favorite dairy product to
eat? (If students are allergic to dairy, ask them which dairy-like
product they like best)

Evaluation/Assessment:
Using the IPad app Proloquo2Go, load photographs that were introduced at the
beginning of the lesson that correspond to the vocabulary words. Verbally quiz
each student individually to test knowledge of the vocabulary words. Verbally
say the vocab. word and show the written word as well. Ask the student to pick
which picture goes with the word (from a field of 4).
