6. Motors shall be provided by the pump

manufacturer and shall be air-filled, totally
submersible. Motor nameplate rating shall
exceed the maximum power required by the
pump in the operating head range.
7. It is essential that the selected pump
manufacturer shall have a reputable
representative permanently based in Saudi
Arabia, who carries ample stocks of spare
parts and can offer first-class servicing,
commissioning and start-up facilities for the
pump stations.

B. PUMPS AND APPURTENANCES

1. All tertiary sewage pumps shall be of the
submersible, centrifugal non-clogging units
capable of passing a 75 mm sphere, designed
specifically for municipal unscreened raw
sewage application.

2. Each pump shall be attached to a guide rail and

locating/mounting system that permits easy pump
removal and replacement. The pumps shall conform
to the requirements of SECTION 15130.

A. Centrifugal pump fabrication, performance,

ANSI/HI 1.1 - 1.6.

5. Material for guide rails and lifting chains shall

conform to AISI Type 316L stainless steel. Guide
rails shall be Schedule 80 stainless steel pipe. All
guide rail brackets, fixings and fasteners shall be
stainless steel Type 316L.
11. The pumps shall be of vertical spindle design
capable of handling raw, unscreened sewage and
shall be so spaced as to prevent vortexing cavitation
during their operation.
14. All major components including pump casing,
stator casing, oil casing, sliding brackets and volute
shall be manufactured from cast iron and the shaft
from stainless steel.

15. All surfaces in contact with sewage shall be

coated with pure epoxy or pure polyurethane. Dry
film thickness of coating shall be 500 m minimum.
All exposed nuts and bolts shall be manufactured
from Type 316L stainless steel.
16. A wear ring system shall be installed to provide
sufficient sealing between the impeller and the
volute casing. The impeller shall be of non-clog
design, having a long, wide through-let with no
acute turns, and be capable of handling solids,
heavy sludge and other materials found in normal
sewage. It shall be dynamically and statically
balanced, key driven, and attached to its shaft by a
suitable stainless steel fastener.

17. The pumps shall be fitted with a mechanical

rotating shaft seal system running in an oil reservoir
having separate constantly hydro-dynamically
lubricated lapped seal faces.
C. MOTORS AND ACCESSORIES

1. The integral driving motor shall be sealed

submersible type, housed in an air filled watertight
casing and shall be a moisture resistance Class F
installation designed for continuous duty, or in a
watertight casing filled with dielectric oil.
2. Motor shall be 3-phase induction type suitable for
operation on 220/127 V or 380/220 V, 60 Hz power
supply, as indicated on the Contract Drawings.

5. Each motor shall be capable of continuous

operation in air (un-submerged) for at least 24 hours
under pump full load conditions, without exceeding
the temperature rise limits for the motor insulation
system.
6. Motor shall have stator winding heat sensor
assembly. Thermal sensors shall be used to monitor
stator temperatures and shall be built into the motor,
be supplied by the motor manufacturer, and shall
activate a switch upon high temperature.
Thermostat shall reset automatically when motor
cools to safe operating temperature.

15. Each unit shall be provided with an adequately

designed cooling system. Thermal radiators, cast
integral with stator housing are acceptable. Where
water-jacks are used, separate circulation shall be
provided and cooling media channels and ports
shall be non-clogging by virtue of their dimensions
and configuration.
PUMP MATERIALS:
A. Pump casing shall be made of any one of the
following material:
1. Gray iron casting conforming to ASTM A48M or
A278. Class of castings shall be as specified in the
documents.
2. Composition bronze or ounce metal casting
conforming to ASTM B62.
