Standard oil/air/fuel filter

Top up vs capacity
Top up
Visit frequency still
limited by original
change criteria
Original volume
No increase in
contaminant absorption
capabilities
No cooling benefits
Oil degrades

Increased Capacity

Volume at least doubled

Oil condition maintained
Cooler running
Oil change periods
increased
Visit frequency can be
reduced by factor of 10
(or more).

Remote oil tank

2000hrs
Lub oil pump
Oil return pipe
Breather pipe

Secondary oil

Benefits

Fewer maintenance visits

Reduction in logistical cost
Cooler running
Consistent oil level
Better oil condition
Bulk head fittings for external fuel supply
can be provided
12

Commissioning

Engine needs run in for 100 hours

Detail in operators handbook
supplement:
Fill tank with 15 litres of oil
Run at min 75% load for 100hours
Change engine filter (not bypass filter) &
drain oil
Refill with 55 litres of new oil

Necessary to reduce the risk of future

problems linked to light load running.
