    Mrs. Kolacki's 4th grade class at Troy Crossroads had a busy week of learning. In ELA, students began novel study groups where they read novels in small groups and discussed them. In writing, students researched famous people and created mini biographies by typing facts into Google Docs and inserting pictures. In math, the class finished lessons on prime and composite numbers and properties of multiplication. Social studies reviewed Chapter 3 in preparation for a test on Tuesday. The week also included chorus practice and creating a wall display honoring veterans.

    ELA
    Reading- This week in reading we started
    our Literature Circle (Novel Study) Groups.
    This is where several students are in a group
    reading the same novel and each student has
    a job to complete for the assigned reading.
    Then all of us in a particular group join
    together to discuss the book.

    Writing-The students created a mini


    research project. We used the internet to
    gather information on that famous person.
    Then, the students put their facts in
    chronological order. Next, they took their
    information and typed into their Google Docs.
    In addition they also inserted a picture into
    their document. Finally, they finished their
    mini research paper by printing it out and
    wrote found celebrities that are veterans
    and wrote a quick paragraph on that
    individual.

    Hello All,
    I hope all is well. We survived our 1st cold
    week. Next week is American Education Week
    you may come and observe a day in your childs
    life in school. We will be asking that parents
    arrive at 9:50 until 11:10. This will include class
    time, lunch and recess. Also, in your childs
    Friday folder is a reminder of your conference
    time. If this doesnt work for you, please
    contact me as soon as possible to make other
    arrangements. Have a great weekend!

    MATH-We finished Prime and


    Composite numbers and discussed the
    different multiplication properties; Zero
    Property, Associative Property,
    Communities Property and Distributive
    Property.
    It is essential for your child to practice math
    facts everyday (+,-, x, ). Math facts are the
    building blocks of math!

    Social Studies- This week in social


    studies we finished Chapter 3 we will
    reviewing the chapter on Monday and
    taking the test on Tuesday.

    Student Corner: This week we had


    chorus. I cant wait until the big
    performance. Also I cant wait until our
    next chorus practice. Also, it was fun
    bringing in pictures honoring the
    veterans we glued, we cut and did a lot
    of other stuff. We made a wall of
