Quadratic Function
A quadratic equation is an equation of the form
ax 2 + bx + c = 0
but a 6= 0 and a, b, and c are real numbers.
Zero Property
If ab = 0, then a = 0 or b = 0.
Quadratic Function
A quadratic equation is an equation of the form
ax 2 + bx + c = 0
but a 6= 0 and a, b, and c are real numbers.
Zero Property
If ab = 0, then a = 0 or b = 0.
We will use the zero property solve these quadratic equations.

x = c and x = c
x = c and x = c
Long story short: If the equation is in the form (something)2 = c,
just take the square root of both sides to find the solutions. Just
becareful when you take the square root of both sides you get the
positive square root and the negative square root. That is, when
we take the square root of both sides of an equation, we pick up a
symbol.
Note that we used the square root method back in Chapter 1 when
we used the Pythagorean Theorem.
Note that we used the square root method back in Chapter 1 when
we used the Pythagorean Theorem. BUT, we didnt consider the
negative square root, because it doesnt make sense to have a
triangle with a negative side.

But why does this method work?
