a)Reection
An experience this semester that has made me feel the most successful would denitely
have to be my rst philosophy test. Coming into the class, I began to realize how complex and
deep the material was. At rst I was a little skeptical about getting an A in the class. However, I
stuck with it and took the challenge. I knew I would need to put in a lot of hours studying for this
class in order to get the grade I wanted. So thats what I did. I took really good notes in class, got
involved and asked questions, and spent more time reviewing at home. As a result, I got an A on
my rst test. Not only did this have an effect on my immediate grade, but it gave me the
condence to keep on working hard for the remainder of the semester.
An assignment that made me feel the least successful, would have to be my rst essay in
English 1B. Unlike my philosophy class, I came in with all the condence in the world, thinking
the class would be a walk in the park. I wasn't taking the class as seriously as I should have,
which was a mistake. For our rst assigned paper, I did not spend nearly as much time as I did
studying for my philosophy test. I did what I thought was just barely enough to get a good grade.
As a result, I was upset at myself when I received my grade. I had barely gotten a B, which for
my goals is not nearly good enough. I had realized that I needed to be putting in the same amount
of effort into all of my classes, regardless of how hard I think the class is. I now know that I
shouldn't take any class lightly because it could end up hurting me when I least expect it.
Although I did poorly on that essay, I am taking the steps to move on and become a better
student. Three things I need to do to improve on this weak point are take the class more
seriously, take advantage of all resources available to me, and ask for help when I need it. Like I
said before, I need to take the class more seriously and put in more effort, even though the class
seemed to be easy. I shouldn't do what I think is enough to get a good grade, I should just do my
very best on every assignment period. The next strategy is to take advantage of all the resources
that are available to me. For this rst essay, my English professor had given us plenty of
opportunities to meet with her and go over our rough drafts. I didn't go to a single one of these
workshops, and it ended up costing me at the end. The last thing I need to do is to know when to
ask people for help. For example, my sister who is a college graduate, is an excellent writer. I
could have easily asked her for help, to make sure my essay was a strong as possible. From this
experience, I really think that I will make these changes and improve tremendously on my next
paper.
B) Artifacts
This picture is just a few
of my many notes that I
took in my philosophy
class. Taking good
notes really helped me
get a good grade on the
test and I will continue
to take good notes in
the future.
These are pictures of the paper I discussed in the
reection.
