[JERRY] Good evening, ladies and lesbians, and welcome to Out Fronts Third Annual Power Party. I want to thank you all so much for coming out tonight, a night in which we honor the incredible work that every single one of you here has performed this year, and pay homage to all the progress weve made over the years in the fight for civil rights.
Our goal this evening the goal weve been working so very hard on is to ensure that you know that we know where all this progress comes from and to allow you a night of rest and libations as we celebrate your achievements under one roof.
As you came in, you no doubt saw the items up for bid in the silent auction, which brings me to a critical moment in our event:
In our continued thanks to everyone working hard to make a difference out here, wed like to place a special kind of emphasis on the assistance that businesses contribute to the fight for LGBT civil rights. They are an ally on so many fronts, from their donations to the very idea that theyre going public with their support of our community. In some places, thats a risky, risky move so we want to publicly support them right back.
These are folks who put boots on the ground right next to us, providing much-needed safe havens and wide- reaching financial assistance.
Some of the supporters of the Power Party and the LGBT community at large are:
Exdo Events Center Mindful The Cooper Lounge and Terminal Bar in Union Station Kroenke Sports Charities and the Denver Nuggets Good Chemistry Pink Monkey LifeStyles Catering Bud Light and Metropolitan State University

[JERRY]
Its with the help of all contributors great and small that we move mountains and thats no exaggeration.
The silent auction being held tonight comes to us courtesy of the generosity of donors who also wanted to show their support. As you bid, you can rest assured that all proceeds go to One Colorado, which is dedicated to the progression of a wide array of LGBT issues ranging from healthcare to education.
Ill tell you: Its hard to convey just how difficult it is for the team to whittle the list down to a fraction of the nominees we receive each year, but in the midst of the madness, its always nice to stop and reflect on the fact that there are so many people out there worthy of nomination. With such a wide array of nominees, theres a deep reassurance that people truly are paying attention to the hard work going on around them, and theyre acknowledging one another by saying, I literally feel you deserve an award. So allow us to step forward and do our part as your devoted friends in media to honor and spread the word about the amazing things you do. Its our passion. Its our job. Its our pleasure.
And because of this, we at Out Front know the struggle. Some days, youre slamming your hand on the alarm clock and crawling out of bed to do something that feels so insignificant in that moment, you wonder if it even matters.
Its not the easiest thing, well admit it. Any number of excuses might suffice when at the end of your work day you really just want to go home and pour a glass of red (or bourbon, if youre a lesbian) and take the night off. But you dont. You put on your best face, you walk into that office or head into that volunteer space, and you grab the torch running.
Or as our marketing executive, Topher, would say:
You channel your inner Debbie Reynolds: Boobs out, chin up. Its showtime.
Before we get the show started, though, Id like to introduce you to the team at Out Front.

[JERRY]
(do we wanna just say our names, so it goes by fast?)
Theres Jay Duque, who we just met. Jay is largely responsible for this event coming together so fabulously and we thank him.
Berlin Sylvestre is our editor who works in tandem with Colby Brumit to ensure a beautiful and entertaining product twice a month. If you read a news article online, chances are Rob Barger, our digital content manager, brought you the scoop.
Theres Lis Porreco, our operations manager, who glues the office together.
Dustin Krier, our Marketing Director, helps keep the lights on, as does our Senior Marketing executive Jordan Jacobs and Topher boobs out LaFleur.
Thats the Out Front team. Day in and day out, they work their fingers to the bone and brains into the drink to bring you the issue twice a month while establishing LGBT presence round the clock.
[JERRY]
To take the fundraising for One Colorado to the next level, weve got a raffle going on.
One Colorado has been instrumental in moving our cause forward, and being that the midterm elections are at hand, nows a great time to give them that extra push. Id like to remind everyone that the vote takes place November 4 th , so make sure youre registered and amped up to do your civic duty.
(do you wanna do your football analogy here?)
Again, thank you all for being here. Your presence is, yet again, a symbol of your commitment. They say its in the little things that we all make a difference, so I hope this thank you is one of the little things that Out Front can give right back.
This is why were here.
This is for you, ladies and gentlemen.
So boobs out! Chin up!
Its showtime!
Now, without further ado, Id like to introduce the hosts for the evening, and put you In Focus with Eden Lane and 9News Kevin Torres. ----------
[CUE EDEN & KEVIN]
[EDEN] We're thrilled to be here this evening hosting the Third Annual Out Front Power Party Awards.
[KEVIN] Indeed. Something about what the Power Party represents to you/the community.
[EDEN] Something about what the Power Party represents to you/the community.
[KEVIN] Its easy to watch politicians signing important legislation into law, and think to ourselves: Now theres someone whos getting things done. Why cant my work be more like that? But even theyll tell you: Without your help, absolutely nothing gets accomplished.
What you do for your community takes constant tenacity, passion, and commitment and it truly does make a difference. Tonight, we shine a light on your dedication.
[EDEN] Take a look around you. We have Senator Pat Steadman in the house. Over there is Clela Rorex, and Speaker of the House Mark Ferrandino is joining the fray.
*probably big applause*
Youre in good company, because you are good company. So to celebrate just how much we admire everything youve done to progress the issues that move our community forward, we raise our glasses in a unanimous, community-wide thank you and hope you enjoy yourself at Out Fronts 2014 Power Awards ceremony.

[KEVIN] This next presenter enthusiastically volunteered to introduce our cover model here in the audience. Please welcome: Todd Mitchum.
[EDEN] This week, we got a taste of the cold weather to come, and the team at Out Front hastily began dreaming up their warm-weather getaway. In case anyone feels like fleeing the freeze as well, were offering right now, via live auction a Palm Springs, California vacation courtesy of Dr. Raymond Frye of Smile High Dental. The gated house is a 3-bedroom/3-bathroom oasis exquisitely outfitted with a saline pool, 6-foot glass firepit, mountain-view, and gourmet chefs kitchen. Its a five-star property with top- notch amenities.
If youd like to bid, simply raise your hand and well consider it your commitment. Proceeds from the live auction will also benefit One Colorado.
[KEVIN] The bidding starts at $1000. Do we have $1000?
[AUCTION]
[EDEN] Congratulations to our winner, and wed like to thank Smile High and Dr. Frye for this opportunity. The silent auction ends soon, so dont forget to check your bids. Were thankful for the items donated, and for our other sponsors including the enormous amount of support from Metropolitan State University and Mindful.
[KEVIN] Moving right along, Mayor Hancock couldnt be here, but he sent us this:

[KEVIN] When the team at Out Front heard our next presenter was keen to make an appearance, they nearly fell out of their seats.
[EDEN] In March of 1975, only three months in to her job as Boulder County Clerk, newly-elected Clela Rorex issued one of the first same-sex marriage licenses in the country and sparked a furor of controversy worldwide. In spite of death threats and calls for her resignation, she never once apologized to anyone for her brave decision. If asked to do it again, she doesnt hesitate to say she wouldnt change a thing.

[JERRY]
Ladies and gentlemen, lets hear it one more time for the 2014 Out Front Power Award Recipients.
Quickly, wed like to thank all of the sponsors of tonights event with a nod toward Mindful and Metro State University for the extra considerations.
Id also like to offer an infinite amount of honorable mentions for all the people in our community whove been working just as hard as our recipients and everyone in the room tonight, and to let everyone know that we aim to continue honoring their work through our coverage and in- person recognition throughout the year.
Now before we take off and hit the afterparty, I just wanna say ...
I know, from time to time, it can be tough to see the big picture when youre so close to the canvas. Its all-too- easy to feel overwhelmed like nothings getting done, but in spite of that, you dont quit. Youre all lionhearted heroes in an uphill battle.
I just hope that, as you continue the journey youre on, this event will be a reminder that were out here ... right alongside you ... and were watching in awe of the many, many wonderful things you do for the community.
As you get back to the grind Monday morning, dont forget to look up from time to time and recognize the efforts of others in the fight. Maybe its an appreciative email or a solid pat on the back.
Its all in the little things, right?
Thanks for coming out.
