Saints Constantine and Helen is a feast


in the Byzantine calendar only (used by
Orthodox Churches and Churches United with
Rome ), set on May 21 . Feast evokes the
Emperor Constantine and his mother Helena
Augusta .

Constantinus was born in 272/274 and died in
337 , is known as Constantine I or Constantine
the Great , was Roman Emperor from 306i
337 , becoming the ruler of the entire Roman
Empire after the defeat of Maxentius and his
Licinius . Legend has it that in the autumn of 312 , on the eve of battle with Maxentius
, Constantine saw in the sky in broad daylight, a bright cross above the sun, which had
the inscription "in hoc signo vinces" - "in this sign you will prevail"; and at night he
appeared in a dream himself Jesus Christ , the sign of the cross, asking him to put the
flags holy sign his soldiers, to be protective in the fires of battle. Constantine
proceeded just as these signs and won the battle .

Empress Helena - Flavia Iulia Helena '(c. 248 - 329 ) was married to Roman
general Constantinius Chlorus , the mother of St. Emperor Constantine the Mare.A was
a very faithful woman known for her piety. A pilgrimage done in Palestine and eastern
provinces, by being awarded finding the relics of the Holy Cross of Christ and finding
the remains of the three wise men. It is said that while on pilgrimage, saw some
people that went dead on a hill where there were three crosses. Here we approached
each. Arriving at last, when the deceased reached the cross, was resurrected. That
was discovered the cross on which Christ was crucified.

This is the feast of dedication to the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest .
