St. Thomas High School is the oldest college preparatory school for young men in southeast Texas. St. Thomas has been guided by Catholic teaching and tradition for over 110 years. A vibrant, diverse community, students at St. Thomas have a variety of options for enhancing their school experience. I t is not uncommon to have students attending St. Thomas from more than 125 postal zip codes in the greater Houston area! St. Thomas High School, a Roman Catholic college preparatory school for young men (9-12), was founded in 1900 by the Basilian Fathers in the downtown area of Houston. In 1940, the campus was moved to its present location at the corner of Memorial and Shepherd, approximately two miles west of downtown Houston. The enrollment at St. Thomas is not restricted by specific geographic boundaries; hence, its central location makes it accessible to all. That sounds great, do you accept non-Catholic students? All qualified students are welcome at St. Thomas regardless of religious denomination. Because we are a Catholic school, all students must take Theology classes, attend class retreats and worship with the St. Thomas community at liturgies and prayer services.
Eucharist is celebrated daily before school in our newly renovated chapel. Tuition & Financial Aid The tuition for the 2014-2015 school year is $14,500.
A non-refundable registration fee of $500 and a tuition deposit of $500 are due at registration.
Books are purchased new or used and total approximately $400 - $700 yearly. Books offered include digital and hard copies.
There are several payment plans to accommodate different needs.
Approximately 30% of students receive financial aid totaling $1.35 million. Accreditation St. Thomas High School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and by the Texas Education Agency through the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department.
Admissions Admission is based on competitive entrance exam scores (HSPT), essays, strong prior academic record, and teacher recommendations. Approximately 50% of applicants are admitted. The student faculty ratio is 14:1
Most freshman classes have about 25 students, the overall average class size is about 20 students. Many upper level courses have less than 15 students. Meeting student needs The learning enrichment center opened in 2012 to meet the expanding needs of every student. The Basilian Fathers have a commitment to educating a broad range of students.

The program provides motivated men of St. Thomas with the opportunity to take college level courses in a high school setting.

St. Thomas is widely considered one of the best schools in the city. Our average SAT scores are as follows: 2020 for the top five percent, 2020 for the top 10 percent and 1930 for top 25 percent. The overall average score is 1725.
The average SAT score for public high schools in the state of Texas for the class of 2012 was a 1434. This score equates to a score of a little above 60%. The national average was not much better, with a score of 1498. The average score of students at St. Thomas is well above these averages. Stand out by attending STH! STH produces well-rounded, respectable individuals. Colleges look for extraordinary academic success and extracurricular activities when evaluating applicants.
More than 60% of our student body participates in the athletic program and an even higher number participate in extra-curricular activities in general!

The class of 2013 was offered nearly $7,000,000 dollars in scholarships! You will compete for state championships in athletics. Since 2008, STH teams have earned 17 state championships and ranked first among mens athletic programs in the Henderson Cup for the 4 th consecutive year in 2013. STH offers students the opportunity to compete in 12 interscholastic varsity sports.
More than 20 student athletes signed national letters of intent to play college sports at the school of their choice in 2013! Outstanding Fine Arts St. Thomas offers top ranked choir and band courses. Students are offered the opportunity to train and perform as members of Jazz Band, Orchestra, and Marching Band. Choir students not only perform, but represent the school in choral competitions as well. Get in touch with your creative side as well by participating in digital photography, ceramics, drawing and much, much more. The drama program offers top level, award winning productions twice a year. St. Thomas provides all students with a digital device in a trend setting one-to- one mobile learning program. STH prepares students to be 21 st century learners by expanding the classroom beyond the classroom!
In addition to personal devices, STH boasts several state of the art computer labs including the publications lab which is home to our nationally ranked student publications team who produce our paper and year book!
Most classrooms are equipped with smart boards and projectors that allow teachers to utilize different methods of presentation to maximize student learning. Got Technology? What about girls? STH offers dances as well as many extracurricular clubs and activities open to our sister schools St. Agnes Academy, Duchesne Academy, and Incarnate Word Academy. Join the band, be in a drama presentation or play sports and interact with the ladies from our sister schools on a daily basis! There are over 30 student clubs and organizations including Student Council, Ultimate Frisbee, Rocketry, Robotics, Spanish Club, Art Club, Columbian Squires, Drama Guild, Environmental Science Club, FCA, French Club, Latin Club and many more! St. Thomas affords students the opportunity to represent the school in a nationally ranked forensics program. Speech and Debate students compete both locally and nationally representing our school!
