ABOUT ME

AUTOBIOGRAPHY

ALICIA NEAL

My name is Alicia Neal, but I go by Ms. Blue. Why Ms. Blue you may ask? Ms. Blue is the name that my students at The Tot Spot gave me, and that is the name that has stuck with me. I grew up in the country in a very small town, called Middletown, in East Central Indiana. I have two brothers, a sister, a sister-in-law, and a nephew, but I am about to add to my family, because I am getting married this July. My fiancs name is Daniel Hanson, and he is also a teacher. He teaches at Daleville High School, as well as coaches varsity baseball and basketball there. I am very close to my parents, and family is very important to me. I graduated from Shenandoah High School in June of 2012, and started at Ivy Tech Community College. When first attending Ivy Tech, I began as a nursing major, but I quickly found out that field was not for me, so that is when I switched to Early Childhood Education. I received a Technical Certificate in Early Childhood Education in December of 2013, and will graduate with an Associates Degree in Applied Sciences for Early Childhood Education in May of 2014. I have completed all of this while working a 40-hour week job at a childcare facility.

I am a teacher, because I absolutely love children. I began working in childcare before my senior year of high school, and immediately loved it. I worked at a home daycare in my little town November of 2013, then had the opportunity to go to Fishers and work in a nationally accredited daycare as an Infant and Toddler Assistant. This January, I was offered a job by the owner of The Tot Spot to run and manage another location she has opened called, The Tot Spot Too, I was switched to the preschool room as an assistant to ensure that the infants and toddlers would not have teachers being pulled in and out of the classroom. I accepted that job offer, so I will begin over there next week, I will continue to work over there until I can afford and am prepared to open my own personal home daycare in the future. My ultimate goal is to own and operate my own daycare/ preschool so I can offer another place of quality childcare to families. I teach because I love teaching children all of the things they will need to learn once in our K-12 system. Teaching children and having the opportunity to watch them explore and learn is enough motivation to teach everyday. Teaching is a very rewarding job, and

makes me happy to know that I am helping as many people as I can.
