Final Product Concept

Baby Tutu

Why a tutu?
Brenda was wearing a tulle skirt that day, and suggested we do a baby tutu. The group liked the idea, it seemed perfect Unique and different than examples from class Reasonably simple Would make it easy to tell the difference between a boy and a girl Chose pink and floral design to make it girly

First Sample
We looked up baby measurements through Google search Decided to use rectangular pattern shapes The waistband would be woven fabric with a button, and tulle for the skirt Looked up pictures on google for more inspiration

Making the first sample

After making the first sample, we decided to change waistband from woven to knitted Added another ply to the skirt The tulle would still be used for the skirt One button instead of two

Second Samples
The tulle was very hard to work with The button attach machine did not work properly, had to hand sew the buttons on after several failed attempts Stayed after 4:00 to finish the samples and tech pack

Creating the tech pack

Had a hard time drawing the flats Couldnt finish the measurement spec until the samples were finished
It took a while for them to be done

Style History

Production Pattern Making

We put notches on the patterns to align them, left allowances Made sure the correct labels were on the patterns
Size Style name Grain line # of cut pieces Name of pattern piece

Marker Making

Connected the patterns on the marker to reduce the total number of cuts Forgot to leave allowance on all 4 sides, so we had to add it after COP: Marker 1: [2:2] 3 plies Marker 2: [1:1] 6 plies Had to alter patterns to fit the marker in order to save fabric For marker 1, there were 4 pattern sets total, this was done to save fabric

Prep for spreading/spreading

Cutting Process

Fabric was shifting Stapled it and used weights Monica used straight knife, it was heavy!

Cutting quality
Quality was overall good Used scissors to cut uneven edges and some waistbands

Preparation for Sewing

The group created preemie size and normal size bundles for both PBS and Modular production systems. Each pattern piece contained a label with ply#, size, style#/name Each bundle for the PBS system contained 6 plies and a ticket with style name, style #, piece name and size, bundle number, and a brief operations of sequence. Each bundle for the Modular system contained all the cut pieces required for a complete product. These bundles also required a bundle ticket which included style #/name and size, and a brief operation of sequence.

Production system set up

The 3 operators were Eve, Lusha, and Monica Brenda was the supervisor/quality controller Monica & Eve hemmed the skirts using SNLS machine Eve gathered the skirts using SNLS machine Lusha attached the waistband Monica made buttonhole Eve attached the button

Problems during Production

The machines would unthread Buttonhole machine did not work; Tony and Dr. Sen helped We considered the thread, needle, tension Button attach machine only attached one side of the button Eve hurt her finger and went to health center, and we had to discard a tutu Brenda and Lusha worked overtime while Monica went to class

Achievements and Skills Learned

Created a unique product that had not been done in class before Learned the entire process of production and how much attention to detail is required Also learned the terminology used in the industry Time management Problem solving skills Following specific directions

Things we wouldve done different

Option 1: We wouldve used elastic around the waistband instead of a button and buttonhole Option 2: (If we used the button/buttonhole) We wouldve used interfusing inside the waistband to reduce the amount of shifting

Teamwork
We all got along and respected each other There were no arguments, and everyone worked together throughout the entire process Communication is very important We all had something to contribute to the group; like Dr. Sen says, FOUR BRAINS ARE BETTER THAN ONE!!!
