1 From two coordinating fabrics, cut one strip that measures 1 x 10 inches (3.2 x 25.4 cm). 2 With a third coordinating fabric, cut one strip that measures 2 x 10 inches (5.1 x 25.4 cm). 3 Stitch the three strips together along the long edges, with the widest strip in the middle. 4 Using a rotary cutter, cut the sewn strip into four pieces that measure 2 x 2 inches ( 7 x7 cm) (fig. A). 5 Sew the four pieces together, and topstitch along the seam lines. 6 Cut a piece of fabric that measures
13 x 6 inches (33 x 15.2 cm).

7 With right sides together, stitch the patchwork piece from step 2 to this larger piece of fabric (fig. B). 8 With right sides together, fold

e Position and pin this strip onto the bag so that the ends meet at the front center of the bag, leaving a small opening. Stitch in place to form the drawcord casing (fig. C). r Flip up the drawcord casing. This will cause the seam allowance to naturally fold down toward the body of the bag. Topstitch in place.

t Topstitch the top folded edge of the drawcord casing. y

u Fold one end under and use a sewing needle to attach one part of the snap in place. Stitch the other part of the snap onto the body of the bag (fig. D). i Fold the other end of the ribbon under by inch (6 mm), and attach the ribbon to the bag so that the snaps align. o
Insert the remaining piece of ribbon through the drawcord casing to serve as the bags cording (fig. E).
