    Kindergarten News

    Welcome to Kindergarten news for Term 2. The news topics this term will be based on our HSIE unit, Healthy Choices. Week 2 Free choice, or what I did in the holidays. Ideas: Talk about your favourite part of the holidays, or what you like best about holidays. Week 3 Food I would like to cook... Ideas: Talk about special family recipes. Things you cook with your parents, or grandparents. Week 4 How I can make healthy food choices for myself. Ideas: Think about the saying, you are what you eat and talk about making healthy food choices. Discuss healthy versus unhealthy foods and why we dont eat sometimes foods all of the time. Week 5 If I were a fruit/vegetable I would be a because Ideas: Would you be this food because it gives you lots of energy and you have a lot of energy. Would you be this food because it is bright, like you/your personality? Would you be this food because it feels soft and you are kind and soft? Week 6 Where does food come from? Ideas: discuss how food is grown, sold and ends up on our table, i.e. from farm to plate. Week 7 My favourite way to be active is Ideas: Talk about your favourite sport, or how you and your family stay active. Week 8 - Ways I care for my body. Ideas: Discuss what you do to keep your body healthy, i.e. have a balanced diet; drink lots of water; get enough sleep; regular physical activity; wear sunscreen and hats in the sun; wash hands; brush teeth; blow noses; clean faces; dont share drinks. Week 9 NO NEWS.

    Please encourage your child to begin their news by saying Good morning, (teachers name) and (class name) and end their talk by saying Thank you for listening to my news. These are just ideas. Please feel free to make up your own, add to, or change these options. Please remember that the more your child has to show, the longer they tend to speak and the less conscious they become whilst presenting news. It is also important that you think about and discuss your childs news item together before the day. This builds their confidence and lets them know you have a sincere interest in their achievements at school.

    I am looking forward to hearing all the children speak. We have already begun some spontaneous news during whole class chat time and the children are proving themselves to be quite a social and outgoing bunch.
