AFL2 Task 2: Market Research Questionnaire

1. If you had to choose between aesthetics and ergonomics for the design, which one would you go for? I believe that a balance is best suited for this, however answering the question; I would go for aesthetics because normally the games are aimed at younger children where aesthetics is what will draw their attention. Aesthetics would be my choice because you cannot easily rate the ergonomics without purchasing the product and once you have purchased it, children will not be likely to complain as their standards are not usually high. I think that ergonomics is what is needed when it comes to a steady hand game because it is about steadiness and precision which requires fairly good ergonomic development. 2. What base materials would you be expecting from this? In my opinion, wood (if it is softened/made smooth), would be great as it would reduce the price and it is strong. Plastic means that you can go for a soft touch, potentially colourful, yet strong base for a good price and therefore I would go with plastic. Wood with a plastic casing around it would be a great combination for a cost effective, rugged, and good looking base. 3. At what age group do you think this would be aimed at? We are definitely looking at children, probably of ages between 4 and 9 years as they will get the most excitement out of it. Kids under 10 will love this game. I reckon that if you were to sell this product to children you would have to modify the difficulty completely, but otherwise this age group is fine. 4. What colour/s would suit this product? Children like bright, colourful toys such as light green or blue. I think two contrasting colours which are glossy and not dark are best for this. For boys you should implement blue and green, and girls should have pink and yellow, but because this product is most likely to be unisex, I would go with a gradient of colours or many stripes of ranging colours. 5. What is a suitable price range for this steady hand game? As you will be competing with top quality goods I would expect around 5 to make a profit and to sell at the same time. 3-10 is what the product should be sold at because the product quality will not be better than official manufacturers. If you sell on a larger scale you should lower the price to about 5, but if you intend on selling very few, keep it slightly higher at around 7.
