A sister pattern to the Nouchali pullover, this shawl design was inspired by aquatic plants that flourish in warm summer weather.

Nouchali is a species of a lotus plant known for its unique blue flowers and I based the design of the pretty botanical lace on those distinctive blooms. To complete the design of this shawl, I created simple yet interesting openwork mosaic reminiscent of rippling water to complement the lace (lace is charted and written out).

This triangular shawl is worked in one piece, side-to-side, from a tiny five-stitch cast on, and it increases along one edge forming a practical, elongated shape. A simple yarn over edging is worked along the two longer sides; this can be used for finishing since the blocking wires can be easily threaded through the yarn overs.

The pattern is charted and includes full row-by-row instructions as well. This shawl can be worked in DK, as well as sport and fingering weight yarns. Solid and tonal colorways with plenty of contrast between the two colors will work with this pattern beautifully.

Yarn Notes: Madelinetosh Tosh Wool + Cotton (50% Superwash Merino, 50% Pima Cotton; 219 yards / 200 meters per 100 g); Celadon (A), Cousteau (B); 2 skeins each (or 425 yards color A, 325 yards color B)

Nouchali Shawl kits with perfectly coordinated Wool + Cotton colorways are now available from Madelinetosh.
