Have you ever heard the doorbell ring and suddenly your dog went crazy and couldn't stop barking? Or did you have someone over to visit and it was tough to concentrate because your dog wanted to play? Even the friendliest dogs can benefit from learning the "place" command. With this training, your pup will go to a cot or bed whenever you need him to be quiet. Teaching the command is actually simple and fun.

Leaving them to guess what you want from them will usually result in them making a choice you don’t like. 

To me, there is nothing wrong with alert/warning barks. Dogs are instinctually going to react to someone approaching their home! However, I draw the line at a dog that cannot settle down after the initial warning. If you want your dog to be able to use self control when you tell them enough in enough, the place command is a great place to start!
