Jason Lazarus is turning protest into art in Miami.

Rocky debris, vintage photographs, and a wooden ship colliding with its own hull are suspended above a 100-yard gallery at MASS MoCA for “In the Light of a Shadow.” The work of Los Angeles-born artist Glenn Kaino (previously), the monumental installation generates a sprawling environment filled with thousands of floating elements that speak to the vast impact of protest and collective movements. From Ai Weiwei’s 300-meter-long installation to giant pop-corns scattered across a pink street, scalability puts once again perspective into public space and public space into perspective at OpenART 2015. 130 artworks are wittily concentrated on 80 exhibition venues spreading across just 5000 square meters in the city center. When old architecture converges with contemporary art in public space, an effervescent phenomenon emerges – the city meets the people and people meet the city.

Pseudonymous Indian street artist DAKU recently installed an immersive text-based work in Panjim, Goa. Placed along 31st January Road, a fishnet structure suspends letters above pedestrians. French artist JR joined the Women Life Freedom campaign on December 4, drawing more than 300 people who participated in a large-scale public work.
