Elan Transfers on Instagram: "Who’s a fan of using foam to press mold pots? 🙋‍♀️

Watch 👀 as @lupineceramics adds our Fruit Transfers with a brayer and then she uses foam and a round ball to press form tiny plates!

We love to use wind glass bottoms in the studio to make little plates. What is your go to form to use when press forming with foam?

Cedar Sun Ceramics | Handmade Pottery in Denver on Instagram: "Pressing clay into this glass bowl from the thrift store made the perfect bisque mold! Now let’s take the pink checkered slab and drape it over the hump mold to make a scalloped clay bowl. ✨🌷 Handling tip, when compressing a slab with a design, put a piece of newspaper between your rib and the clay to keep the design crisp. Also, I let my slabs dry out for about 30 mins post slab roller before compressing them further. What sort of clay hand building design should I try next? 🌿 #potterystudio #clay #handbuiltceramics #handbuiltpottery #ceramicstudio #bohohome #bohostyle #checkers #checkered #ceramicbowl #potterylife #clayartist #homedecor #potterydesign #clayart #denverartist #midcentury #artdeco #pottery #ceramics" Hump Mold Ceramics, Sun Ceramics, Clay Hand Building, Pottery Molds, Pink Checkered, Hand Building, Clay Hand, Clay Bowl, Hand Built Pottery

Cedar Sun Ceramics | Handmade Pottery in Denver on Instagram: "I’m obsessed with this @garritytools mushroom anvil! I use this pottery tool like this… 1. Roll out a 1/4 inch slab and compress it. 2. Use the anvil head that’s 1 size bigger than you want your bowls and cut out a circle, I.e. if you want a 3” bowl, cut out a 4” circle. 3. Let the clay dry a little so it will be easier to remove from the anvil head. 4. Use a piece of medium density couch foam and press the anvil into the center of your clay circle. 5. Roll the anvil around until you have a smooth bowl shape. 6. Remove the bowl from the mold and gently tap it on a flat surface to add a flat bottom. 7. Clean up the edges with your @mudtools white sponge and decorate! 8. Glaze and fire your bowls, and they’re ready to use. Melisa | Handbuilding ceramic artist in the SF Bay Area on Instagram: "This is how I start my spiral bowls. Before this bowl-in-bowl approach, I would try to place a flat slab straight into my slump mold and had a hard time getting it into the bowl shape without a lot of creases. With this approach, there are usually no creases and a lot less smoothing.

Why not just use a hump mold and avoid this altogether? Because I don’t want to deal with the Goldilocks of drying a bowl on a hump mold just long enough to hold its form but not too long that it cracks (I’m a parent with a full-time job so I can’t always get to my pieces when I want to).

And yes, I know that most people (all people?) make spiral bowls using a flat slab without a bowl. That’s a great way to make spiral bowls too—just no Slump Mold Pottery, Handbuilt Bowl, Pottery Inspo, Ceramic Molds, My Aesthetic, Slumping, Hand Built Pottery, Pasta Bowls, Pottery Bowls
