Hi All I recently fitted dado rails in the hallway and landing to break up the large ceilings and restore a bit of period character to the house (circa 1905). I'm struggling to decide on colour choice above & below though? And should there be any thought given to co-ordinating with adjacent roo...

Some of these lessons I learned the hard way- don’t be like me! 1. Instead of a pencil, use a chalk line to mark the walls where you would like your dado rail to go. Especially up the stairs! 2. Plan how many picture frame panels you would like to create and draw them on the walls BEFORE you stick down any moulding. 3. If you don’t have a professional mitre saw to cut your wood, a mitre box saw or a junior hacksaw can still get the job done! 4. Always use a spirit/digital level to make sure your panels are straight. Do NOT trust your eyes alone. 5. Sophie Higgs on Instagram: "Stairs Panelling🤍 A few tips on how we carried the panelling in our hallway up the stairs. Swipe along to see ➡️ To get the line for the dado rail on the stairs we put wall tacks at the bottom and top of the stairs, the height we wanted the dado rail 1000mm from the floor. Then we got a piece of string, coloured it one side with blue chalk, held the string tight on top of the tacks, (chalk side facing the wall with one person holding it at the bottom of the stairs and one person at the top. You’ll then have a straight chalk line all the way down the stairs wall to attach the dado to. Very hi-tech hey?! 🤣 It would be much easier with a laser level but we don’t have one! For the angles of the dado rail and the moulding for the panelling I’d really recommend get Hall With Dado Rail, Hallway With Dado Rail, Hall Stairs And Landing Panelling, Panelling Under Dado Rail, Hallway Dado Rail, Hall Dado Rail Hallways, Easy Panelling Stairs, Stairs Dado Rail, Stair Photos
