A blooming spectacle: New crepe myrtle festival invites the world to visit Natchez

Organizers hope the Natchez International Crepe Myrtle Festival, June 21-22, will rival the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C., and fall foliage tours in New England.

Ian Barker Gardens on Instagram: "It's that time of year, and Lagerstroemia trees are beginning to bloom 😍 This tree is called Lagerstroemia 'Natchez' and belongs to the Crepe Myrtle family. It's characterised by its smooth, rich brown, peeling bark and clusters of ruffled and crinkly, pure white flowers that bloom at the branch's tip in mid-late Summer. The tree's foliage is dark green and, in autumn, transforms into shades of orange and red before falling for winter. Uses 🤍 Lagerstroemia 'Natchez' is best used as a feature tree. We planted one in the front garden bed of our Camberwell project to act as a striking specimen tree.
