Last week Sky wowed sports fans with a huge discount on its sports packages, a welcomed site for anyone looking to upgrade their TV ahead of the upcoming 2024/25 Premier League kickoff, the US Open, or tune in to the last week of the Paris Olympics. Amid the mega £216 discount there are more reasons why we'd back Sky, on top of its competitive price.

Sky is currently offering one of its biggest-ever price drops on the Sky Stream, Sky Sports, Sky TV, and Netflix plan. Dropping the price from £52 per month to £43, cheaper than Virgin Media.

Bundling in everything you could need to watch your favourite team compete live, it's the first time in a while that the packages have dropped below £50 per month, but its cheaper price is only the start of why it's one to pick. As the provider ramps up its coverage by 50%.

"Launching this August, Sky Sports+ will be transformational in the amount of choice sports fans will have access to via live streams on Sky TV, streaming service NOW and the improved Sky Sports App on mobile", is the official announcement on the Sky Sports website. As it boosts the EFL, tennis tour coverage, and the men's Super League (every match to be exact).

On its site Sky continues: "This year Sky Sport brings you 50% more sport...at no extra cost." With the number one reason being additional coverage, the second reason fans may want to pick the providers is for its Virgin beating prices.

Each time the Mirror Tech team spot a price drop we're quick to bat it against rivals and it's not hard to see how Sky Sports price drop is giving Virgin's Bigger Combo Bundle + Sports HD a run for its money.

Virgin does offer Sky Sports HD in its plan but along with 362mbps broadband and 195 TV channels, it charges £59.99 per month (sale price) as opposed to Sky's cheaper £43 monthly rate. Sky doesn't have broadband included on this particular fan but for footie, EFL, and tennis fans only looking for TV this may not be a biggie.

The third reason why we see TV fans sway towards Sky, along with its current £216 saving, is it's huge streaming freebie: Netflix. Yes, all of its Sky Stream plans (including sport) include the price of a standard with ads Netflix plan. Again, something rivals don't offer.

Along with the much cheaper Sky Sport price, boosted channels, better than Virgin Media's rate, and free Netflix, there are however a few things eager shoppers will want to consider. For starters you have to be able to lock into a full 24-month plan.

Sky also states in the T&C's of its plans that "prices may change during this period" which is to reflect rise with inflation costs. If shoppers fancy taking a look at Virgin Media one thing it offers that Sky doesn't is bundling in SIM offers so you can pair it with your chosen TV or broadband plan.
